Andy Serkis is portraying a character in the new Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters. Serkis, best known for his role as Smeagol/Gollum in the Lord of the Rings and Ulysses Klaue in Marvel's Black Panther, will be stepping in to do voiceover work for Vardan Kai, a Grey Knights Space Marine grand master. The news was announced by publisher Frontier Foundry and confirmed in several interviews leading up to the game's release date of May 5, 2022.
Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters is actually an update to the original Chaos Gate released in 1998. Daemonhunters features turn-based tactical RPG combat reminiscent of XCOM and is set in the grimdark far future of Warhammer 40K. Players will step into the roles of the Grey Knights, a chapter of Space Marines with potent psionic abilities tasked with protecting the known galaxy from the threats of the Ruinous Powers. Fresh off a campaign against the blood god Khorne, the Grey Knights are forced into another campaign despite their diminished supplies and weaponry, this time against the pestilent forces of the plague god Nurgle.
The player will resume the role of an anonymous Grey Knight but that does not mean there will not be a wealth of storytelling and characters to populate the world. In the efforts to stop the daemons of Nurgle and maintain peace in their sector of the galaxy, players will have to interact with NPCs, each with their own agendas and motives for helping the player. Early previews for Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters are positive with most citing the excellent voice acting and character writing as stand-out features. While the game is newly released, there are some details that have been revealed about Andy Serkis' character and their role in the story.
Warhammer 40K: Andy Serkis' Character May Help or Hinder In Daemonhunters
Vardan Kai, portrayed by Serkis, will be both an adversarial and helpful force to the fledgling chapter the player controls in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters. As an authority in the Grey Knights, Kai has the power to give players access to an impressive armory of weapons, vehicles, and upgrades that can be useful to the player as they combat the forces of Nurgle. However, Kai also must contend with other forces across the galaxy. If the player does not prove themselves, Kai may decide to allocate his resources elsewhere.
With Andy Serkis in one of the leading roles, it is clear that Complex Games pulled no stops to create a quality product. If the concept of an epic sci-fi fantasy adventure heavily inspired by XCOM is interesting, then this game may be worth picking up. While Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters isn't on Game , the game is currently available on Steam and The Epic Games Store.
