Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 introduces sweeping changes to many signature features of Call of Duty: Warzone, including a few significant improvements to the game's Gulag mechanic. Call of Duty: Warzone set itself apart in the battle royale landscape by introducing a gameplay mechanic that lets players re-enter a match if they conquered another player in a 1v1 Gulag match, often giving players a second chance at victory. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 literally doubles down on the idea, making getting eliminated almost as fun as winning.
As previously mentioned, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 doubles down on the Gulag by adding two more players to elimination matches, squaring off in 2v2 matches instead. Additionally, the improved Gulag adds an AI-controlled Jailer for all four players to defeat, prompting surprising teamwork opportunities and less surprising betrayals. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will change the battle royale wars when the game launches to the public in late November, and the Gulag's updates are a crucial component of the game's changing mechanics.
The New Gulag Mechanics In Call Of Duty: Warzone 2 Are An Improvement
Adding more players to the Gulag is a significant change for Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, bringing more gameplay variety to elimination matches. Doubling the number of players in the Gulag not only creates new opportunities for player cooperation, but it gives all four players a chance to respawn in the main map area via its Jailer mechanic. After a set period, an AI-controlled Jailer spawns near the center of the Gulag. Like a Juggernaut, the enemy has a Gatling gun and thick armor. If the Jailer is eliminated, all four players are respawned in the main map area to their respective teams.
These changes to the Call of Duty: Warzone Gulag have no downsides. Now, players have to make split-second decisions with a teammate whether to eliminate the other two players, cooperate with the same enemies to defeat the Jailer, or feint cooperation and kill them anyway. It completely upends the previous iteration of the Gulag and gives players way more options on how to survive in Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0.
Aside from the Gulag's major updates, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is set to bring many changes to Call of Duty: Warzone. The game's original version will be renamed Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera and will relaunch after a brief hiatus to ensure the successful launch of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0. Both Warzone 2.0 and Warzone Caldera launch on November 28th and are sure to take the battle royale wars to an entirely new level.
