Patch 1.4.0 will constitute the next major update for Developer InXile Entertainment has yet to confirm a specific due date for the patch, but it's set to arrive before The Battle of Steeltown story expansion touches down on June 3.
The first story expansion for the apocalyptic RPG, The Battle of Steeltown will task Rangers with investigating why the factory complex Steeltown is no longer delivering the goods that keep Colorado in working condition. What the Rangers will find upon arriving is little more than a disastrous situation, a powder keg waiting to blow with workers striking, bandits raiding, and the closing of Steeltown's gates to anyone who tries entering. But before all that rains down on Wasteland 3 players, InXile Entertainment plans on deploying an update that will evolve another part of the role-playing experience - collecting and maintaining furry and fanged friends.
While Wasteland 3's companions are special in their own right, Patch 1.4.0 aims to take this aspect of the RPG to another level. InXile Entertainment's recent preview of the forthcoming update notes that an Animal Companion Kennel is in the works that will allow players to keep every animal they meet in one warm and inviting environment. At present, animal companions leave whenever dismissed. The advent of the Kennel will guarantee all pets return to a single designated space. Patch 1.4.0 will also make companion-type limits a thing of the past. Thus, instead of having only one wolf or cat, players can collect three of each should they desire. And if a pet's owner dies in combat, s can expect the animal to return to their Kennel once the mission ends - assuming the pet itself survives the fight.
This next update serves as but another example of InXile's commitment to continuously expanding upon the already high-quality experience. While there were a few hiccups at launch, particularly with regards to Wasteland 3's co-op options, the last several months have seen improvement after improvement issued to solidify this entry as one of the best RPGs in recent memory.
Wasteland faithful waited for approximately four years between the third game's announcement and its August 2020 release date. By most s, the protracted period was well worth it. Fortunately, the wait for major changes and new story content will soon come to an end, too.
Wasteland 3 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms.
