There are many shows that are severely underrated due to being unable to compete against D.N. Angel. Currently, the series is only available for , but this series is worth watching as it follows the adventures of a phantom thief who has a quota to fill and has to rely on a young teenager to get the job done.

D.N. Angel is about a boy named Daisuke Niwa, who is, by all means, an ordinary student up until the day he decides to confess his feelings for the girl he's had a crush on, Risa Harada. However, when things go sour after he's turned down, Daisuke undergoes a drastic transformation that forces him to morph into an entirely different person, even down to his personality. This other self is none other than Dark Mousy, a thief who operates during the night and challenges authorities to stop him from claiming his prize.

D.N. Angel Offers a Fascinating Twist on Phantom Thieves

D.N. Angel never made it big outside of its small circles of fans, but it has a lot to offer in of being both an easy-to-watch comedy anime that occasionally dips into fantasy elements with its magic system and action-packed adventure as Daisuke and Dark work together to pull off the heists to recover treasures that are steeped in mystical properties from the thief's past. It's a bit of a slow series, dropping the ball into the audience's court and playing the long game of ensuing hijinks of Daisuke trying to balance his ordinary life with the alter ego he is forced to adapt to at night.

The best part of D.N. Angel is watching all of the character dynamics at work since Daisuke and Dark are two very different people.

The best part of D.N. Angel is watching all of the character dynamics at work since Daisuke and Dark are two very different people, with the teenager naturally insecure and not the most outgoing, whereas Dark is a mature and level-headed adult figure who paves the way for Daisuke to grow into his own even if his methods often push the young man to come out of his shell.

D.N. Angel Was Cut Before its Prime

Anime Competition Was at an All-Time High in the 2000s

It's a shame that D.N. Angel only got to premiere one anime season out of the 20 volumes of manga that were written and illustrated by Yukiru Sugisaki. The first installment ultimately concluded in 2021, but a sequel has also begun serialization with Asuka Magazine, under the new title DDNAngels in 2024.

D.N. Angel has an audience score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Now that the anime has begun circulating again, it's a great time for new and old fans alike to rekindle an appreciation for the underrated gems that heralded all the best elements of the 2000s.
