The post-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage has excited fans in great numbers. The movie’s core story was about Venom’s battle against the Carnage symbiote, but the reveal of Spider-Man and the titular character’s jump into the Marvel Cinematic Universe has opened up many possibilities. Alternatively, there’s still potential for Eddie Brock and Venom to make a mark in their home universe of Sony’s Spider-Man’s Universe.
Tom Hardy’s take on the role has brought in significant interest for his future and it’s worth speculating what’s in store for him. These range from the chance of seeing Venom against more characters to creative techniques of using the symbiote to hype up other movies in both the SSU and the MCU.
Pursuing Spider-Man As His Prey
There’s a good reason to consider Venom as Spider-Man’s enemy in the MCU after the post-credits scene of Let There Be Carnage. Venom saw J.J.J.’s broadcast of Spider-Man’s identity and instantly made intentions to eat him by calling him tasty.
The next appearance of the character can be in a Spider-Man movie where he’s pursued by Venom as potential prey. It can set up Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock as the bridge between the characters as Eddie will try to prevent Venom from eating Spider-Man while the latter attempts to save his life.
Reveal Of A Genuine MCU Version Of The Character
By this point, many fans consider Venom as Tom Hardy’s best character, and the actor can still surprise viewers. Venom 2 brought Eddie and the symbiote into the MCU by unknown means, but the next appearance can be for the actual MCU version.
This could be explained as a variant of Eddie and Venom who are native to the MCU. It could set up a potential meeting between the Eddie/Venom of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and this variant. Fans would most definitely be surprised to realize that Venom already exists in the MCU and this version can have an entirely different personality.
As The Lead In A Venom-Verse Story
The tease to a meeting with Spider-Man has pretty much been promised, but Venom 2’s post-credits scene can swerve into a Venom-Verse movie instead. Eddie and Venom’s transportation into the MCU could be explained as hopping between universes for the protagonists.
It can then lead to multiple Eddie/Venom variants turning up, with whom the prime versions would need to team up. This could be the setup for the third Venom movie that deals exclusively with the Venom symbiotes across the multiverse.
Appearance In Another Sony Spider-Man Universe Movie
The main appeal to the protagonists is the Kraven the Hunter that are separate from the MCU.
Venom could show up in these movies as a way to acknowledge the connection between the character and the new entrants to the series. It could be chronologically set before Venom 2 in order to accommodate for the post-credits scene of the movie.
Cameo In A Separate MCU Movie To Hype Up The Multiverse
The likelihood of this happening is relatively slim because Venom is owned by Sony and other characters in the MCU are exclusively Disney properties. Spider-Man appears in both the MCU and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe as part of a deal, although there’s a chance the companies make an exception for Venom as well.
In this scenario, Venom can turn up for a cameo appearance in a movie where viewers would never expect to see him, such as Loki.
Aligning With Spider-Man To Stop A Multiversal Threat
There’s a good chance that Spider-Man: No Way Home is all about the multiverse and Venom could be a valuable ally.
The characters can befriend each other to stop a threat that’s unknown to them, giving Tom Hardy and Tom Holland the chance to have their superheroes become a powerful duo. The multiversal threat could be a traditional Spider-Man enemy if the series wants to shift away from the MCU.
In A Prelude To Spider-Man: No Way Home
The MCU had the habit of delivering one-shot stories that were essentially short films. These hyped-up movies come and fill in the gaps in chronology. Spider-Man: No Way Home has a likelihood of skipping through a montage that deals with the fallout from Mysterio’s reveal of Peter’s identity.
The prelude to Peter meeting all the multiversal threats can be in the form of Venom, which can tie in directly with the ending of Venom 2. This short film could see Venom immediately head for Spider-Man after the news announcement, and coming across the symbiote will make Peter realize that realities are merging, which then leads into the main story of No Way Home. It would also enable Spider-Man to expect the appearance of villains like Doc Ock and Green Goblin.
