It’s the ultimate reunion of X-heroes who rose to popularity in the 1990s, when guns, cybernetic arms, and pouches were all the rage. But what’s truly exciting is the creative team—a solid group of veterans that fans should always pay attention to. Joe Casey made his mark at Marvel with a memorable run on Cable in the late 1990s, where he quickly established himself as a writer of cutting-edge, idea-driven action stories. ChrisCross is another creator who made his name in the 1990s, getting his start on the groundbreaking Milestone line at DC Comics.
Equally thrilling is the new X-team they’ve assembled for this story, starting with the big kahuna of them all, Wolverine. He may be overexposed, but that’s only because Logan remains one of the most compelling characters in all of comics. Rob Liefeld may have announced his departure from Marvel, but Cable and Deadpool are in good hands here, and it’s always a treat to see Liefeld’s two biggest Marvel characters together on the page. Adding a resurrected Thunderbird and the Generation X teen turned X-Men member Chamber completes a pretty sweet lineup of take-no-prisoners mutants for fans to enjoy.
Joe Casey and ChrisCross Revive '90s Action in Weapon X-Men #1
Steve Skroce Variant for Weapon X-Men #1 (2025)
With that lineup and creative team, Weapon X-Men #1 sounds like a dream come true for fans who came of age in the 1990s, as well as for those who didn’t experience it but are eager to discover the improbably shaped weaponry, bulging muscles, and pouch-laden wardrobes they may have missed. Neither creator has done much long-form work at Marvel Comics in recent years, so the collaboration between Joe Casey and ChrisCross for an all-new series starring Deadpool, Wolverine, Cable, and more is definitely something to get hyped about.
