Wedding Crashers 2: Christopher Walken & Jane Seymour Would Return If Asked

Jane Seymour says both she and Christopher Walken would return for Seymour and Walken starred in the original 2005 movie as the matriarch and patriarch of the Cleary family and parents of Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn's characters' love interests Claire (Rachel McAdams) and Gloria (Isla Fisher). In Wedding Crashers, John Beckwith (Wilson) and Jeremy Gray (Vaughn) accept an invitation to the Cleary's estate after meeting Claire and Gloria at their sister's wedding.

Vaughn recently confirmed that Wedding Crashers 2 is in early talks. The possibility of a sequel has come up multiple times since 2005 due to the popularity of the first movie, which grossed over $285 million at the box office and ranked as the most successful comedy released that year. Vaughn has been hesitant to revive the material, however, having observed that sequels all too easily fall into the trap of milking the original movie's jokes well past their last laughs. In November, Vaughn revealed that he, Wilson, and director David Dobkin are seriously considering making Wedding Crashers 2 based on an updated premise from Dobkin. As of now, little is known about the project, which technically isn't in pre-production yet.

Seymour tells the James Bond and East of Eden star says that she and Walken both had fun filming the first movie and would happily return for another:

We both have said we'd love to, at least that's how I it. I definitely said I would love to. I'm sure he would, he loved doing that movie. I read about these things all the time, but no one actually has given me a phone call. So I don't know if I would be involved or not.

Jane Seymour, Christopher Walken and Isla Fisher - Wedding Crashers

Although it may seem absurd that two actors who made Dobkin's screwball family comedy a classic haven't been ed yet, it's likely that no actors have been brought onto the project in its current infant stage. Earlier this month, Fisher said that she would "100%, 100% be down" for another movie, adding to the list of former of Wedding Crashers' fantastic ensemble cast who would reunite for the sequel. Fisher hasn't been approached either, although the actress teased a sequel back in 2016 and may be involved in an unknown capacity. Neither McAdams nor Bradley Cooper, who played McAdams' frat-bro boyfriend Sack Lodge in a career-launching role, has commented on whether they'd return. Still, a sequel featuring Seymour, Walken, and Fisher would be well worth seeing.

Wedding Crashers 2 would have to time-jump to John and Jeremy in their middle age due to the actors' actual aging. Dobkin has said as much, and Vaughn has been clear about his intention to only make a sequel with a contemporary idea that would prevent it from being dated. Considering the director and star's shared vision for a refreshed premise, it's unlikely that a new script would rely on callbacks to old jokes and fanservice by way of reunion. Although the creators' commitment to making Wedding Crashers 2 a good film in its own right is ultimately for the best, the script might go in an entirely new direction that leaves out old characters in order to make way for new storylines. Regardless, there's always room for a cameo or two.
