Warning! Spoilers for Sirens ahead!
Peter Kell had a wife before Michaela came around in Sirens, and precisely what happened to her is one of the overarching mysteries Devon must solve. The Netflix dark comedy series sees Devon DeWitt discover that there is something strange going on with her sister Simone's boss, Michaela Kell. The millionaire philanthropist has some peculiar influence over the people of their affluent island, and Simone seems to be sunk even more than the rest. Devon becomes especially concerned in Sirens when she hears rumors that Michaela may have murdered her husband's first wife.
Throughout townspeople of Sirens think that there's so much secrecy surrounding Jocelyn because Michaela murdered her, but Devon ultimately finds out that this isn't the case.
Jocelyn Is Living Away From The Public Eye On An Island Off Washington State After Being Disfigured By Plastic Surgery
Michaela Tells Devon The Truth At The End Of Sirens
As things come to a head in Sirens, Devon finally confronts Michaela about Jocelyn (in front of everyone at the gala). She was so confident that Peter's second wife murdered the first, and the fact that no one in the house was permitted to talk to the woman seemed to confirm it. Even Peter became immediately suspicious when Devon started asking questions about Jocelyn. However, after being confronted, Michaela explains that Jocelyn is alive and living on a quiet island off Washington state. She keeps to herself because she was disfigured following a disastrous plastic surgery.
All five episodes of Sirens are available to stream on Netflix.
Michael went on to explain in Sirens' final episode that she and Peter try to respect Jocelyn's privacy, which is why the woman is included in the non-disclosure agreement signed by all the household staff. Of course, the Kells know about the rumors that Michaela murdered Jocelyn. Peter himself appears uninterested in defending his second wife, while Michaela chooses to steer clear of the topic that so impacts her husband and his children. This is one of the final signs of the true nature of the Kells. Michaela isn't the villain Megan thought she was, and Peter's kindness is really just iveness.
Why Everyone Thought Michaela Killed Jocelyn In Sirens
It Was Too Easy To Make Jocelyn The Monster
When it really comes down to it, there was no reason for anyone to believe that Michaela killed Jocelyn in Sirens. However, her status as the "other woman" meant that people quickly painted her as the monster. Peter, on the other hand, was the one who left Jocelyn—the mother of his children—for the younger, beautiful lawyer representing his film. Yet, no one became suspicious that he had done away with his wife.

Sirens Cast & Character Guide
Netflix's Sirens is a dark comedy limited series full of mystery, secrets, and unique laughs, all pulled together by its excellent cast of performers.
These details feed right into the themes of Sirens. It's evident that both the men and women of the series make bad, self-serving decisions, but only the women are labeled as monsters. Though it was wrong for Michaela to pursue a married man, Peter was the one who chose to have an affair and then leave his wife. Still, Michaela was the only one who became the subject of gossip, and, eventually, even Peter bought into he idea that his wife was a monster. This allowed him to justify leaving Michaela for Simone, who then became, in the eyes of the public, a monster.
Sirens aims to explore that, even after similarly harmful actions, men and women aren't regarded the same way when it comes to public opinion.
Of course, neither Michaela nor Simone is a monster, and they certainly never killed anyone. Even Peter isn't a monster. Just like Michaela and Simone, he is just a damaged person making poor decisions in an attempt to claim happiness. Sirens aims to explore that, even after similarly harmful actions, men and women aren't regarded the same way when it comes to public opinion.
