The following contains spoilers for the Invincible comic series and Invincible season 3 episode 7, "What Have I Done?," now streaming on Prime VideoInvincible's superheroic characters.

While the heroes are able to bring down many of the villainous versions of Mark Grayson, there are a number of them who actually survive the episode, albeit trapped in another dimension. This could allow them to return in future storylines, which is exactly what happens in the original comic series. However, given their role in the overarching storyline of the show, it's unlikely that the eight survivors will reappear anytime soon in the Prime Video show. Here is what happens to the evil Invincibles in the original comics and which ones become important again in future storylines.

The Last Eight Evil Invincibles Are Beaten By Angstrom

Angstrom Gets The Drop On The Surviving Evil Invincibles

Over half of the eighteen variants of Mark Grayson that appear in Invincible season 3 episode 7, "What Have I Done?" are killed during the course of the episode, with the last eight of them banished to a barren reality by Angstrom levy. The Prime Video's adaptation of the "Invincible War" storyline sees Levy return after his apparent demise in season 2, unleashing a horde of homicidal Invincible's onto the world at large. The super-powered menaces killed countless people across the globe, laying waste to the world despite the best efforts of Earth's superheroes.

Ten of the eighteen variants are killed by the end of the episode. Cecil and the Re-Animen are able to slay two of them, while Rex and Darkwing sacrifice themselves to bring down two more. Other superpowered characters are shown dispatching the variants, including Powerplex. By the end of the conflict, only eight of the Invincibles are left standing. However, when they try to force Angstrom Levy to fulfill his end of their bargain, he simply banishes them to the same barren reality that the core-universe Mark Grayson almost killed him in during season 2.

This is quietly a perfect way to defeat the half-Viltrumite villains, negating the advantages they get from their immense strength and absurd endurance by simply dropping them into a reality where none of that matters. It's a fittingly grim turn of events given the severity of the murder sprees carried out by the eight villainous Invincibles, and allows the episode's climax to return to the core dynamic between Mark and Angstrom. It also leaves the door open for these eight Invincible variants to potentially return down the line.

It took over forty issues, but readers of the Invincible comic series by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley eventually found out what happened to the evil Invincibles. It's eventually revealed that after eight surviving of the group suffered the same fate as their animated counterparts, they are unable to escape the barren reality. The eight initially try to remain a united front, sharing their backstories with one another and reflecting on the events that turned them each evil. However, starvation eventually drives them to desperation in the form of cannibalism.

Invincible fans everywhere are divided over the revamped look of Dr. Angstrom Levy, some are going so far as to ask if it actually hurts the TV show.

By the time Mark eventually encountered Angstrom Levy again, only two of his villainous variants are still alive: the yellow-caped Sinister Invincible and the brutal Mohawk Invincible. Mark was sent into the barren reality in Invincible #103 and forced to confront these two nightmarish versions of himself again. After facing off with the unstable Sinister Invincible, Mark makes an unlikely alliance with the Mohawk Invincible, who has grown to hate the Sinister Invincible. Working together, the pair are able to overwhelm their more dangerous counterpart, with Mohawk Invincible finishing him off.

Mohawk Mark gets the most attention of any of the variants, with Mark even visiting his reality and learning more about his backstory — a world where Mark became a monstrous hedonist after being forced to kill his Atom Eve when he sided with his father against Earth. This villainous variant isn't around for long though. After kidnapping Angstrom Levy in an effort to gain control over his reality-hopping ability, Mohawk Mark is killed to establish the severity of the threat posed by one of the story's most surprising villains.

Will Invincible's Evil Variants Return?

Mohawk Invincible Has An Important Role To Play (But Probably Not In Season 4)

Invincible Season 3 Ep 7-10

Invincible has been a largely faithful adaptation of the original comics, making it likely that the Invincible varants will return to the show down the line. It's also likely that they will share their fate with their comics counterparts. Mohawk Invincible is already one of the most prominent specific variants that appears in "What Have I Done?," while the dark side of Sinister Invincible was teased previously during a cameo appearance in season 2.

Given that Mohawk Invincible plays a big part in the later stretch of Angstrom Levy's story-arc, it's likely they will return alongside Angstrom. However, that probably won't be in Invincible season 4. While the show could tweak the plot a bit to speed things along or move story arcs around, it has so far been fairly consistent with the original comics. This makes it unlikely that the show will adjust the story too much, meaning there are still plenty of story arcs to run through before the return of the Invincible variants.

Ultimately, it's likely a good thing the Invincible variants don't play a larger role in the overarching story. The dangerous quality of the characters would be blunted by too many appearances, and the danger posed by the Viltrumites provides a natural direction to take the story. While it may initially seem like a lingering plot thread that takes some time to fully resolve, the story of the evil Mark Graysons subvert the typical "evil universe counterpart" storylines by using them as set-uo for the greater threats that already exist in Invincible's world.
