The final season of the animated Marvel Animation began work on What If...? season 3 in July 2022, and later confirmed that the season would be What If...?'s last hurrah.
What If...? has already introduced viewers to a slew of interesting and fantastical variants, including Captain Carter, T'Challa's Star-Lord, Nova Corpsman Nebula and the morally-questionable Strange Supreme. What If...? season 3's cast includes some of the weirdest and most exciting additions, however, sending the series out with a bang. What If...? season 3 will be the shortest season of the animated series yet, but it's expected to be even more jam-packed with new variants, alternate twists on classic MCU storylines and some brand-new, previously-unseen adventures.

What If...? Season 3 Premieres On December 22
What If...? season 3 will premiere on Disney+ on Sunday, December 22, 2024, with episode 1 hitting the streaming service at 9pm ET/6pm PT. The season will follow in the footsteps of What If...? season 2 by releasing an episode per day for eight days over the Holiday period. What If...? season 3 will come to an end with an epic finale on December 29, 2024, leaving the future of the Watcher and some of What If...?'s best variants uncertain.

What If...? Season 3 Is The Shortest Season Yet
Both What If...? seasons 1 and 2 comprised nine episodes, but What If...? season 3 is clocking in as the shortest chapter of the series with only eight episodes releasing once per day over the 2024 Holiday period. Despite having the fewest number of episodes, What If...? season 3 seems to be gearing up to explore the more wild and wacky universes in the MCU's multiverse, rather than sticking closer to the MCU's own narrative, as previous seasons have done. Marvel Studios confirmed What If...? season 3's episode titles on December 15.

This is a very exciting slate of episodes for the final season of What If...?. In this season, there's only one clear instance of an MCU storyline being altered, as episode 5 will twist the ending of 2021's Eternals. Aside from that, each story in What If...? season 3 will be entirely new and original to the animated series, which opens up a plethora of opportunities for Marvel Studios to really experiment. There's speculation that characters from What If...? could be explored further in the MCU's live-action future, so What If...? season 3 might not really be the end.
