Marvel Studios has confirmed the development of alternate reality across the MCU's multiverse - a concept first introduced in Phase 4's Loki season 1.
What If...? season 1 premiered on August 11, 2021, marking the return of more than 50 actors from the MCU, reprising their roles in nine episodes. Season 1 debuted variant heroes including Captain Carter, T'Challa's Star-Lord, and a villainous Strange Supreme, while Jeffrey Wright's enigmatic Watcher, who's also set to return in season 3.

An official trailer for What If...? season 3 was officially released during D23 Brazil, highlighting a number of heroes and storylines that will be explored in the third season. It reveals a release date and most interestingly, the trailer confirms that it will be the third and final season for What if...? The show has been successful for the MCU, allowing it to explore the mulitverse in fun ways while showcasing an impressive animation style.

The Show Arrives At The End Of 2024
What If...? season 3 is officially confirmed to premiere on December 22, 2024, only one year after season 2 was released. The third and final season of What If...? looks to follow in the footsteps of season 2's release model, with an episode premiering on December 22, and then episodes releasing daily until December 29.
One interesting thing to note about What If...? season 3 is that it is 8 episodes long, one episode shorter than each of the first two seasons. It's unclear why it will be a bit shorter, but it is possible that it could end up being longer overall, given how long each episode is.

The Show Is Set To Feature Storm Wilelding Mjolnir, Shang-Chi In The West, & More
While What If...? season 1 focused on adapted storylines primarily from the MCU's Infinity Saga, What If...? season 2 includeed more characters and adventures from the Multiverse Saga. This suggests that many of What If...? season 3's stories might not have been seen in live-action yet. Like the first two seasons, What If...? season 3 will include various characters in different settings and situations across the multiverse. For example, Shang-Chi will be explored in a Western setting while a team of Avengers looks to be piloting mechs to fight Hulk-like monsters.
It's clear that these characters and their variants are important to the MCU.
One particularly interesting thread for What If...? season 3 is the inclusion of a number of exciting characters. White Vision is seen during the trailer, who has only appeared in the last two episodes of WandaVision and will be explored further in Vision Quest. Agatha Harkness looks to be in season 3 after also appearing in WandaVision and having her own show Agatha All Along. It's clear that these characters and their variants are important to the MCU.
One of the biggest surprises during the trailer was the inclusion of Storm, calling herself the Goddess of Thunder and wielding Mjölnir. This is just one more step towards the eventual inclusion of the X-Men into the main MCU universe.

The Season Includes At Least One X-Men Character
More than 50 actors from the MCU's past reprised their roles for What If...? season 1, though the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson didn't return as Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff, respectively. The trio retired from their roles following 2019's Avengers: Endgame, but the magic of the multiverse means new actors could assume these roles.
Many of season 1's voice cast are returning in What If...? season 2, including Hayley Atwell, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mick Wingert, Lake Bell, Josh Keaton and Chris Hemsworth, among many others, so it's likely that these actors will also reprise their roles in What If...? season 3. The only character who was always certain to be returning for What If...? season 3 is Jeffrey Wright, who has voiced the mysterious and otherworldly Watcher since What If...? season 1.
Alongside The Watchers, a number of MCU characters will appear in What If...? season 3 including Red Guardian, Bucky, Sam Wilson's Captain America, Shuri, Moon Knight, Agatha Harkness, White Vision, Shang-Chi, and Storm. Her inclusion in What If...? season 3 could possibly lead to major implications for the MCU as a whole as the Multiverse Saga continues to move forward.
