Taika Waititi has announced yet another project based on Thor: Ragnarok, but he hasn't forgotten the world of the mockumentary.

After the success of What We Do in the Shadows, word emerged last year that two spinoffs were in the works. One would serve as a sequel, chronicling the werewolves from the first movie and featuring the punny title Paranormal Event Response Unit was also in the works, focusing on the goofy cops from What We Do in the Shadows. Now, a third project has been added to the list.

Fandango spoke with Waititi while promoting Thor: Ragnarok, and he announced a brand-new project based off of What We Do in the Shadows:

"We're trying to develop a U.S. version of What We Do in the Shadows. You know, set here in the states, but a TV show."

U.S. reboots of popular international movies and TV shows is nothing new, but it's always heartening when the original creator is involved. Obviously, the plot of a mockumentary focusing on vampires who live together could easily be done in any country. Adding in the expanded storytelling potential of a TV series, and this new project certainly sounds appealing. And for anyone worrying the previous planned show is giving way to the new one, Waititi assured fans that production is still scheduled to begin soon on Paranormal Event Response Unit.

"We're also trying to start shooting in New Zealand. A spin-off following the two cops from the movie, as a sort of mockumentary X-Files [that takes place in] a certain small New Zealand town where they investigate paranormal activity."

Like most of the background players in What We Do in the Shadows, the two cops were certainly memorable. When you factor in all the supernatural activity that was suggested to happen in New Zealand in the film's world, a show focused on a police response to that would have plenty of material.

Finally, Waititi stated that, alongside the two TV shows, We're Wolves is still very much a priority.

"We're still trying to write that. We're doing those [other shows] as well as trying to come up with ideas for this werewolf movie. It will happen!"

With Thor: Ragnarok being praised by critics and expected to open big in the U.S. next weekend, Waititi will likely be able to make just about any project he wants happen. Hopefully, we'll know more soon about all the proposed What We Do in the Shadows spinoffs.
