cast has done a solid job at bringing many of Robert Jordan's novel characters to life, considering the practicalities that come with adapting such an immense series to the screen. We've seen engaging interpretations of Moiraine, Elayne, and many more, but The Wheel of Time show's differences from the books have disappointingly meant deviations with others.

The Wheel of Time's season 3 story is set to adapt The Shadow Rising first, with Rand al'Thor visiting the Aiel Waste before going to Tear to retrieve the sword Callandor. It will be interesting to see how rearranging these events will alter the narrative.

The Wheel Of Time Season 3 Looks Like It's Finally Giving Rand The Attention He Deserves

Rand Al'Thor Is The Dragon Reborn And Needs To Be The Focus

The Wheel of Time books are known for their sprawling ensemble, but Rand al'Thor is the main character. He leads the total number of POV chapters by a significant margin, and, of course, he's the Dragon Reborn. The Amazon Prime Video show has worked to allocate more focus to Moiraine and the Aes Sedai, which is inherently a great change, as their order contains some of the most fascinating characters in Robert Jordan's novels, but it's unfortunately come at the cost of Rand's arc.

Deviations in Rand's storyline in seasons 1 and 2 resulted in the sacrifice of a critical part of his growth from the first two novels: his sword training with Lan, Moiraine's Warder. By The Shadow Rising in the books, Rand is already a competent swordsman worthy of the heron-marked blade he was given by his father. In the TV series, Rand spent much of season 2 with Lanfear, but the circumstances were notably different from The Great Hunt, preventing him from receiving any training.

Season 3 should be very Rand-focused, with him on a journey as a warrior and a human being before obtaining his Sa'angreal blade.

Rand al'Thor has revealed himself to be the Dragon Reborn in The Wheel of Time TV series, and retrieving Callandor will be on his agenda. That makes it all the more necessary for him to know how to wield a blade in the first place. In an interview with RadioTimes.com, Moiraine actress Rosamund Pike explained that "we are going into the Aiel Waste first because [Rand] needs to discover who he is." Season 3 should be very Rand-focused, with him on a journey as a warrior and a human being before obtaining his Sa'angreal blade.

The Events Of Season 3 Promise To Improve Perrin's Story In The Show

Perrin's Return To The Two Rivers Is Epic In The Books

Bain, Perrin, Chiad, and Aviendha walk through Falme in The Wheel of Time

The events of Perrin's story in season 3 were already established with his conflict with the White Cloaks in the season 2 finale. With the TV series jumping to The Shadow Rising, Perrin will be taking a group of heroes and returning to the Two Rivers, where he'll be ed by Tam al'Thor and many of the characters that were glossed over early in season 1. The Shadow Rising is generally considered to be a fan-favorite among Robert Jordan's series, and Perrin's plotline and war sequences are a major component of why.

4 Wheel Of Time Book Characters I Think Will Be Cut In Season 3

While I'm sure The Wheel of Time season 3 will be introducing a number of favorites from the books, there's a few I expect to be cut altogether.

Another announcement regarding The Wheel of Time season 3 was the casting of Isabella Bucceri as Faile Bashere, a significant character in Perrin's story who was introduced in The Dragon Reborn in the novels. Given that Perrin had a wife in the TV series who died during the original attack on the Two Rivers, it will be curious to see how Perrin's emotional arc differs from The Shadow Rising. Regardless, Perrin will have a heightened role this season, and we're really excited to see more of him, as Marcus Rutherford has been one of the best parts of the show.

I'm Still Worried About How The Wheel Of Time Will Handle Mat's Character Arc

Mat Is Going To Tanchico Instead Of The Aiel Waste

Dónal Finn as Mat Cauthon in the Wheel of Time Season 3 trailer

Mat Cauthon is the loveable rogue of The Wheel of Time TV series, and he's been a character the TV writers seem to have had trouble figuring out so far. Given that Mat was written out of the season 1 finale due to the original actor leaving the show, his story was adjusted from where we see him in the books, with him being imprisoned by Liandrin and spending a lot of time with Min, whom he rarely shares scenes with in the entire novel series.

In The Great Hunt, Mat remains with his friends and still struggles with the conflict created by the dagger from Shadar Logoth. Given that he reunited with Rand at the end of season 2, it could have been an opportunity to get him back on track, which would mean traveling to the Aiel Waste with Rand. Instead, he's going to be ing Nyneave and company on their trip to Tanchico, possibly replacing the role Juilin Sandar plays in this narrative in the books, as Sandar has yet to be cast.

Why The Wheel Of Time Season 3 Needs To Get All 3 Main Characters Back On Track

Rand Matt and Perrin reunited in The Wheel of Time season 3

Rand, Perrin, and Mat are the three most prominent characters in The Wheel of Time books, essentially making them the main characters. Yet, Prime Video's adaptation has primarily sidelined them and made prevalent changes to their stories. For this series to work, the big three need to be moving in the right direction, and season 3 needs to get them back on track. They can share the stage with Moiraine and the Aes Sedai, but they can't be relegated to ing roles.

No TV show is immune to being canceled. However, it would be especially disappointing if these series were cut short before their storylines ended.

The three Two Rivers boys are Ta'veren, meaning that the titular power that weaves the Pattern is guiding them toward a critical role in the story's events. The influence these three characters have due to being Ta'veren is one of the core elements that makes The Wheel of Time what it is, and season 3 needs to prioritize the importance of this. Season 2's reviews saw a steady increase from fans, so hopefully, season 3 will continue to take steps in the right direction toward a more faithful adaptation of the beloved books.
