Summary
- Logain's role in Rand's journey was teased in Wheel of Time, but a potential mentorship may be saved for season 3.
- Asmodean's character dynamic with Rand is pivotal and may play out in a shocking and dramatic way in the series.
- The Wheel of Time's adaptation is staying true to certain book elements, setting up potential plot developments for future seasons.
Wheel of Time season 2 certainly did turn heads by having Rand look to Logain for help with the One Power. Such a move would have been a massive departure from The Wheel of Time season 3 (and more).
Logain Becoming Rand's Mentor Would Ruin The Perfect Ending To Wheel Of Time Season 3
Rand came very close to not needing Asmodean's help
Were Logain to fulfill this important role in Rand's story, The Wheel of Time would have no use for The Shadow Rising's ending in its narrative. This would be disappointing, especially when considering how it would be the ideal conclusion to Rand's arc in season 3. Since The Shadow Rising is the book season 3 is adapting, it stands to reason that like the first two seasons, its finale will line up with the novel's final act. That would dictate that season 3 ends with Rand forcing Asmodean to become his teacher, but that obviously wouldn't work if Logain already had this responsibility.
Published in 1992, The Shadow Rising is the fourth book in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series.
In The Shadow Rising, Rand's trek across the Aiel Waste culminates in the character engaging in an epic showdown with Asmodean, one of the The Wheel of Time's world to serve him allowed the book to end on a truly shocking note.
While it would have been difficult for this moment to match the surprise factor of the book scene, it would make an appropriate ending to season 3. The reactions from his peers, including Moiraine and anyone else on hand, would have lent itself well to the show, helping it to create a truly dramatic sequence. It would also set up a more confident Rand for The Wheel of Time season 4, one who isn't afraid to make daring decisions and defy the advice of his friends and allies.
Wheel Of Time Is On Track To Make Asmodean Rand's Teacher
Asmodean and Rand have one of the most interesting character dynamics in the books
When Wheel of Time was still in the process of telling Rand's season 2 story, there were understandable concerns that creating this new version of Rand and Logain's relationship would make Asmodean's story necessary, and therefore it wouldn't be adapted. But since this route has been avoided, there's now renewed hope that Rand's big moment with Asmodean will indeed happen. Prime Video's show has been willing to remove major stories from the books, but it's looking like Asmodean teaching Rand won't be one of them.
Asmodean's chances of showing up aren't severely affected by the fact that The Wheel of Time has seemingly The Wheel of Time season 2 finale.
Rand's continued lack of understanding of how to create certain One Power weaves furthers the need for a book-accurate take on The Shadow Rising's ending. Presumably, this would be followed by a season 4 story that honors Rand and Asmodean's dynamic in The Fires of Heaven, which sees the Forsaken member delivering careful instruction to Rand on how to properly utilize the One Power. Since Rand learned very little from Logain, there's a lot that Rand can take away from whatever time he spends with Asmodean in The Wheel of Time season 4.
