Thanos. His name strikes terror into the hearts of billions across the universe, and hearkens back to the ancient Greek god of death, Thanatos. True to his namesake, Thanos is obsessed with nihilism and death, and his one true love is the Goddess Death herself. One of the most bloodthirsty and powerful beings in the cosmos, he has murdered millions in his quest to impress and appease Death. No one knows where or when this genocidal maniac will strike again... but what of his origins? More specifically, where was Thanos born?
One of Thanos’s nicknames – the Mad Titan – provides a major clue as to his place of birth: a mere 890 million miles from Earth on Saturn’s largest moon, Titan. The only moon in our solar system known to have a dense atmosphere, Titan is also the only known body in space other than Earth where surface liquid has been found. Populated 750,000 years ago by a group of Earth’s Eternals who were on the losing side of a civil war, Titan became a socially and scientifically advanced haven of peace and prosperity. Then came Thanos.
carried the gene of the Deviants, an offshoot of the genetic experiments of the godlike Celestials that created both sentient life on Earth and the Eternals, which gave him a hideous, purple appearance, unlike his handsome brother Starfox (aka Eros). In fact, Thanos was such a gruesome baby, his mother Sui-San attempted to kill him at birth but was stopped by A’lars.
It was perhaps the Deviant genes and the knowledge that his own mother had tried to kill him that initiated gathering the Infinity Stones and erasing half of all life in the universe.
The Thanos will be making an appearance in either the Eternals comic book series or the 2021 movie!
