The story of GameStop's stock and the 2021 short squeeze debuted in theaters, but audiences can now watch Dumb Money's box office left much to be desired.
There is still plenty of interest in seeing Craig Gillespie's movie and how Dumb Money's true story is brought to life. A theatrical release is not the end-all-be-all that it used to be for audiences to see movies. The rise in streaming services has changed audience behavior, especially for smaller movies that are not connected to existing IP or a major franchise. Dumb Money still has plenty of recognizable faces and a story that dominated headlines to offer viewers now that it is available on a streaming service.

How High GameStop's Stock Price Got & What It Costs Now
The GameStop stock price reached record highs during the short squeeze Dumb Money explores. Here is how high the price got and what it costs now.
Dumb Money Releases On Netflix On January 21, 2024
Sony has officially confirmed that Dumb Money's streaming release date on Netflix is January 21, 2024. Since Sony does not have its own streaming service currently, it struck a deal with Netflix in 2021 that gave the world's biggest streamer first rights to Sony's movies. The timing of Dumb Money's Netflix release falls in line with Sony's average gap between theatrical and streaming releases, which is four to six months. Since the GameStop movie was not a massive box office hit, Sony is moving the film to streaming on the shorter end of the spectrum.
By waiting to release Dumb Money on Netflix until January 2024, Sony left a 128 day gap between the theatrical debut and streaming release. Netflix subscribers will not have the opportunity to watch the movie for the next several months. After Dumb Money is finished streaming on Netflix, it will then move to either Disney+ or Hulu as part of the Pay 2 window thanks to a separate deal Sony made with Disney. Since Dumb Money is rated R, it should move to Hulu during the Pay 2 window based on how Disney treats Disney+ content.
