can only be described as “different.” The dark comedy horror thriller is produced, in part, by the team behind Succession, including Adam McKay and Will Ferrell. It has a star-studded cast that includes Ralph Fiennes, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, Judith Light, and John Leguizamo, among others. Combined with the intriguing story, it’s no surprise that The Menu has already more than doubled its budget at the box office since premiering in November 2022.
The movie begins when a couple travel to a private island to dine at an exclusive restaurant owned and run by a celebrity chef. When they arrive, they meet the eclectic mix of other patrons, including a food critic and her editor, a wealthy couple, a washed-up movie star and his personal assistant, business partners, and the chef’s alcoholic mother.
The meal quickly turns ugly when not only are the dishes served up with unsettling details, but the diners begin revealing dark secrets about one another. There’s apparently no escape and the chef seemingly has ulterior motives for inviting the specific guests he chose, as they eventually come to discover.
