Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong star in The Apprentice cast as Trump and Cohn.

The Apprentice's reviews were primarily positive, suggesting the movie might be an award candidate in 2025. Its October release is notably less than one month before the 2024 presidential election on Tuesday, November 5. This slotting is strategic for both the film's success and likely intended to raise discussion and contention before the election, as Donald Trump will be followed intensely by news outlets over the next month. A biographical drama about his early years in business could add to the intrigue surrounding the election, especially given the already controversial responses to the film.

WHERE TO WATCH

The Apprentice depicts a young Donald Trump in 1970s New York, highlighting his formative relationship with Roy Cohn, a ruthless attorney. As Trump seeks to establish his own legacy, Cohn identifies him as an ideal protégé, drawn to his ambition and determination to succeed at any cost.

After controversies surrounding The Apprentice movie, the movie finally found a release date for October 2024. The film premiered earlier this year at Cannes but was met with opposition in its distribution. Pro-Trump billionaire and former owner of the Washington Commanders, Dan Snyder, sought to block the release of the film after having it screened for him in February. The Trump presidential campaign also issued threats of legal action in a report by Variety in May 2024, following the movie's premiere. Luckily, the movie is going ahead as planned.

When Will The Apprentice Release On Streaming?

No Streaming Release Date Is Known Just Yet

No official release date for The Apprentice has been announced yet, and it's hard to say exactly where and when it will be. The film was picked up by Briarcliff Entertainment, a relatively small, independent American distribution company that's best known for producing movies starring Liam Neeson, like Marlowe and Honest Thief. All of these movies are currently playing on different sides, so Briarcliff Entertainment doesn't seem to have a connection with one major streaming service, making it hard to say which one The Apprentice would end up on.

When Will The Apprentice Release On Digital?

No VOD Release Date Is Known Just Yet

Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump in The Apprentice

As with the streaming release, it's hard to predict when exactly The Apprentice will be available on VOD. Previous movies from Briarcliff Entertainment have taken roughly two months to be released on VOD after their theatrical release, though The Apprentice could be made available sooner due to the election occurring just three weeks after its theatrical release. A late October or November VOD release seems to be the most likely option for the divisive new movie.
