Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a fantasy movie that relies heavily on CGI and special effects, but the cast and crew traveled to many different European countries to film numerous portions of the project. The film stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Regé-Jean Page, Hugh Grant, Daisy Head, and Chloe Coleman and is adapted from the popular role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons. For viewers who are also Dungeon & Dragons (game) fans, Honor Among Thieves is based on the Forgotten Realms campaign setting.

Although some of the action sequences and other moments in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves were filmed in front of a green screen, the directors, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, and cinematographer, Barry Peterson, took advantage of gorgeous and historic locations in Europe to shoot their movie. Production began in April 2021 and had ended by August of the same year. Overall, they filmed in four countries — Iceland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, and England.

There is a beautiful shot in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves of Edgin Darvis and Holga Kilgore riding their horses along the edge of a volcano overflowing with lava. Some might reasonably believe that CGI made this magnificent scene possible; however, that's not the case. According to 5 Dungeons & Dragons Rules Honor Among Thieves Broke (& 5 It Honored)

Dún Briste Sea Stack — County Mayo, Ireland

Dún Briste Sea Stack in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

One of the most recognizable locations in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is the Dún Briste Sea Stack, which is just off the coast of Ballycastle, County Mayo, Ireland. The breathtaking rock formation was once attached to the mainland before breaking off and now stands on its own in the water. In the film, the Dún Briste Sea Stack is the setting for Korinn's Keep, a Harper stronghold where Edgin and Holga were arrested at the beginning of the movie. Of course, the interiors for the scene at the stronghold were filmed at a studio elsewhere, but the exterior shots are of the famous sea stack.

Glenarm Castle — Glenarm, Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland served as the backdrop for many sequences in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, including one of the flashbacks near the start of the movie. Viewers got their first look at Forge Fitzwilliam and Simon Aumar when they, Edgin, Holga, and Kira robbed the occupants of a castle. The actors shot this quick scene at the Glenarm Castle in Glenarm, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The Glenarm Castle was built in the 17th century and was also used as a location in the 2009 Irish film, Five Minutes of Heaven.

The castle served as the setting for the harbor of Neverwinter and was where Forge tried to kill Kira. Carrickfergus Castle was built more than 900 years ago, and visitors can get tours of the historic monument today.

Castle Ward shores — County Down, Northern Ireland

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves used an iconic Game of Thrones location to introduce Regé-Jean Page's Xenk Yendar toward the middle of the movie — Castle Ward in Strangford, County Down, Northern Ireland. Castle Ward is an 18th-century mansion that is open to the public, but Honor Among Thieves only contained exterior shots of its shores. However, Game of Thrones fans might recognize the mansion as the setting for Winterfell.

To the surprise of audiences, Bradley Cooper had a small cameo in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The group encountered his character, a halfling named Marlamin, when they traveled to his village to obtain a teleportation staff. The exterior shots of his small cottage were filmed in the Hidden Village of Galboly, a historical landmark in Carnlough, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The Hidden Village was the perfect setting because it feels like a moment trapped in time, and similar to Castle Ward, Game of Thrones also shot some scenes in the Hidden Village.Related: Honor Among Thieves 2: Story, Status & Everything We Know About The D&D Sequel

Wells Cathedral — Wells, England

The sequences include the moment when Edgin and Holga saw Kira for the first time after their two-year-long imprisonment, the shots of Lord Neverember's chamber, and more. The crew took full advantage of the beautiful medieval building, which was built around 1175 and is famous for its Gothic architecture.
