  • Sora's journey focuses on self-acceptance and love, ed by Biyomon.
  • Tai's impulsive nature leads to mistakes but ultimately helps him grow more patient over time.

Digimon was so revolutionary, at least in part, because of its distinct cast of characters, naturally leading nostalgic fans to wonder which characters they would be based on their Zodiac signs. Luckily, between Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02, the series graced fans with exactly twelve main characters (and their partner Digimon), making categorizing them by Zodiac sign simple.

Even with some incredibly fascinating designs for the Digimon themselves, what keeps fans coming back are the central Digidestined themselves.

The DigiDestined from Digimon Adventure 2020 and their partner Digimon

Though most of the Digidestined featured in the first two seasons of Digimon have canonical birth dates, all of them are distinct enough characters that asg them a Zodiac sign is simple enough.

Aquarius - Izzy

Partnered With Tentomon

digimon tentomon with Izzy Izumi

The resident tech expert of the original Digidestined, Izzy is easy to identify as the Aquarius of the twelve original Digidestined. Aquariuses are thought to be original, independent, and deeply intellectual, all words that describe Izzy well. Unsurprising to anyone who knows even a little bit about the character, Izzy proves his status as an Aquarius by earning the Crest of Knowledge.

Despite his reputation as the digital world's egghead, Izzy is also a loyal friend both to his partner Tentamon and the other Digidestined. Despite his good nature and willingness to work with others though, Izzy can sometimes emotionally distance himself from others. Despite his intelligence and his occasional need to shut out those who care about him though, Izzy is trusting and is always happy to work with the other Digidestined to accomplish any task set before them. All of these traits combine to make Izzy a model representation of an Aquarius.

Pisces - Sora

Partnered With Biyomon

Digimon Adventures' Sora wearing a visor and softly hugging her Biyomon in a forest.

The heart of the original Digidestined team, Sora is a great candidate for embodying many of the traits associated with a Pisces. More so than almost anyone else in the original Digimon Adventure group, Sora is empathetic and wise, leaving her to often mediate between Tai and Matt when they would clash. Her nurturing nature is what made Sora an easy candidate for the Crest of Love.

Not all Digimon are creatures of the internet but rather come from different dimensions with the intention of conquering the digital world.

Unfortunately for Sora, the grace she extends to others often isn't something she gives herself. Sora is very self-critical and is prone to beating herself up in situations where she can't help her friends. In this respect, Sora's journey in the original Digimon Adventure is more about learning to love and accept herself. Biyomon is an excellent partner for her in this respect, always cheering Sora up when possible. These traits combine to make Sora well-suited to being a Pisces.

Aries - Tai

Partnered With Agumon

Digimon's first goggle-wearing hero is still one of the best, and he is a great candidate for the Aries sign. Courageous to a fault, Tai is initially defined by his heroism and ability to lead in tough situations, inevitably earning him the Crest of Courage. Unlike future heroes of the franchise though, Tai can be level-headed and even thoughtful, especially with the wise council of his partner, Agumon. These traits, combined with his innate charisma, mean that Tai is a natural-born leader to the other Digidestined.

If Tai has one flaw that he shares with the Aries sign though, it's his impatience and stubbornness. Tai is famous for his clashes with Matt for good reason. Tai's biggest failure in the original Digimon Adventure though is his forcing Agumon to Digivolve to Mega before he was ready, leading to the creation of Skullgreymon. Fortunately for everyone involved, Tai quickly learned his lesson and grew more patient.

Taurus - Cody

Partnered With Armadillomon

Though Cody is the youngest Digidestined in the original Digimon timeline, he is also the most serious. Feeling the need to toughen up after the death of his father, Cody tries to be mature and level-headed whenever he can. This trait especially comes in handy when comparing Cody to the likes of his teammates like Davis, whose impulsive and often goofy personality can occasionally clash Cody's attempts to be treated like an adult. This is what makes Armadillomon a perfect partner for Cody, as the Digimon is wise but can provide encouragement for the Digidestined to loosen up.

Much like many Tauruses, Cody's biggest problem is his own stubbornness. Despite his apparent maturity, Cody still sees much of the world in black and white, meaning it is difficult for him to change his perception of people after they've done something wrong. This is a classic Taurus trait, but luckily it's one that Cody manages to work through by the end of Digimon Adventure 02.

Gemini - Kari

Partnered With Gatomon

Gentle and kind to a fault, Kari is best represented by the Gemini Zodiac sign. A late addition to the Digidestined in Digimon Adventure, Kari plays the important role of bearing the Crest of Light alongside her partner Gatomon. Though it would be easy to decry her for trusting a former villain like Gatomon, Kari's trusting nature actually pays off, as Gatomon becomes an invaluable team member to the Digidestined in both Digimon Adventure and in Digimon Adventure 02.

If Kari has a fault in both of the first two Digimon seasons, it's her sensitivity. Kari's love for her brother and the other Digidestined could sometimes lead her to despair when tragedy strikes. This sensitivity also means that Kari has an innate weakness to darkness that took her considerable work to overcome. Despite these problems though, Kari's ability to help those she cares about makes her a truly exemplary Gemini.

Cancer - Davis

Partnered With Veemon

Moody and highly energetic, Davis has more than a few traits in common with the Cancer Zodiac sign. Emphasizing the tenacity of Cancers, Davis is a true go-getter who always jumps at the chance for action. Unlike other Digidestined whose Digimon provided some sort of contrast, Veemon is a perfect mirror of Davis, almost acting like the 02 leader's little brother at times. Still, Davis and Veemon's energy was more than enough to make them strong candidates to take Tai's place as the leader of the Digidestined.

Despite all of these traits though, Davis' impulsive nature brought him to more than a few problems. Notably, Davis' early crush on Kari made him constantly clash with T.K. in a fitting mirror for Tai and Matt's often strained relationship. Still, his loyal nature and dedication to friendship lead him to reach out to the previously villainous Ken with ease. Putting all of these things together, Davis is the best embodiment of Cancer among the Digidestined.

Leo - Mimi

Partnered With Palmon

Digimon's Mimi sitting in a chair made of leaves with Palmon sitting at her side.

Warm-hearted and always expressing her creativity through her fashion sense, Mimi is the most logical Digidestined to represent the Leo Zodiac sign. A rich girl who is used to being taken care of, Mimi starts out Digimon Adventure as rather spoiled and self-centered. Palmon and their experiences in the Digital World end up softening many of Mimi's rougher edges though, leading to her being quite generous and kind by the series' end. Mimi's outspoken and daring nature eventually earns her the Crest of Sincerity.

Though Mimi possesses the Crest of Sincerity in the official English dub of Digimon Adventure, she is instead given the Crest of Purity in the original Japanese, while Joe is given the Crest of Honesty instead of the Crest of Reliability.

Like most Leos, Mimi's strengths lie in her charisma and force of will while her weaknesses lie in her sense of vanity and entitlement. Ultimately though, despite being spoiled, Digimon Adventure makes it clear that Mimi has a good heart and that she genuinely does mean well for those she cares about, making her the perfect match for Leo.

Virgo - Joe

Partnered With Gomamon

Digimon's Joe sitting down against a rock and looking up with his partner Gomamon.

The most hardworking and mature member of the original Digidestined, Joe is obviously a Virgo. Joe takes on the role of team dad throughout much of Digimon Adventure, acting responsibly to try and caution his friends away from danger whenever possible. Much like many Virgos, Joe is also deeply intelligent and has a mind for analysis, leading him to be the original Digidestined's smartest member other than Izzy.

Unfortunately for Joe, his greatest strength is also his greatest fault. Joe can be a little too hard-working and cautious at times, leading him to be risk-averse in situations that call for a bolder approach. Joe's nature as a hard worker also had its downsides as he can sometimes overwork himself, leading to him not helping his friends and himself when he should. Still, Joe more than earns the Crest of Reliability, the perfect Crest to represent a Virgo.

Libra - T.K.

Partnered With Patamon

Digimon's TK crying with Patamon patting him on the face and smiling.

Naturally conflict-averse but ultimately fair-minded and full of cheer, T.K. is the best represented by the Libra Zodiac sign. Libras are known for their serene nature and their ability to get a long well with others, all traits that define T.K. in both Digimon Adventure and in Digimon Adventure 02. T.K.'s initial innocence makes Patamon the young Digidestined's perfect partner. Their bond eventually leads to Digimon's best digivolution scene as Patamon becomes Angemon. Proving that there is always a chance to beat evil, T.K. and Patamon earned the Crest of Hope.

Much like many Libras, T.K.'s biggest challenges are his fears of loneliness. T.K. was traumatized by Patamon's 'death' back in Digimon Adventure and that cast a long shadow over his life as seen in Digimon Adventure 02. Despite this, T.K.'s optimism and strong sense of right and wrong are his most defining traits, something many Libras will certainly relate to.

Scorpio - Ken

Partnered With Wormmon

Digimon's Ken standing alone in a valley surrounded by rocky peaks.

Initially starting out in Digimon Adventure 02 as the villainous Digimon Emperor, Ken is a conflicted hero who eventually makes a solid case for being the Digidestined's Scorpio. Scorpios like Ken are often ionate individuals with a strong will and an even stronger sense of self-preservation. Fittingly, it is these strong emotions that lead Ken down a path of darkness initially, as he let his grief over the death of his brother Sam consume him. Despite his early villainy though, Ken eventually comes to possess the Crest of Kindness, symbolizing his growth.

Ken technically links Digimon Adventure and Digimon Tamers' worlds, as he knows the character of Ryo, a hero from the Digimon Wonder Swan video games who would go on to be a prominent ally of the Tamers.

Ken's time as the Digimon Emperor showed some of the worst traits associated with Scorpios. As the Emperor he is violent, short-tempered, and manipulative. Though this was ultimately due to the Dark Spore stuck in his neck, Ken would end up carrying the guilt of causing so much pain. Still, once he learned to accept himself and his faults, he showed just how much of a team player a Scorpio can really be. Digimon Adventure 02 is one of Digimon's most underrated seasons, and Ken is a perfect symbol of why the series is so great.
