The Enneagram personality types are great indicators as to how a person loves and operates in their everyday lives. They also outline explicit strengths, weaknesses, and can help people understand why they are the way they are.
Many fans find similarities in Gilmore Girls characters and themselves, something that can be further explored through Enneagram types. Viewers might be adventurous like Logan, intuitive like Rory, loyal like Lorelai, or strong-willed like Luke. Each character represents a different type, and die-hard fans know Stars Hollow is packed full of different personalities.
Type 1 - Emily Gilmore - The Perfectionist
Emily Gilmore wants things done her way or the highway. She cares about her social status, wealth, and what people think of her. While Emily wasn't always the kindest mother on Gilmore Girls, she was doing her best to craft and maintain her perfect image.
Those with Enneagram type 1 are perfectionists, much like the Gilmore matriarch. They strive to be the best at what they do and gain the approval of others. Sometimes this is detrimental and can cause rifts between them and the ones they love, while other times it proves just how much they care. Other Perfectionists on Gilmore Girls include Mrs. Kim and Shira Huntzberger.
Type 2 - Sookie St. James - The Helper
Gilmore Girls fans got to watch Sookie St. James blossom from Lorelai's clumsy best friend into a loving wife, mother, and co-business owner. Sookie's infectious laugh and helping hand made her a phenomenal best friend and business partner, and a wonderful mother due to her strong maternal energy.
Enneagram 2s are helpers, just like Sookie. They want to give love to those around them and make them feel safe and cared for. Sookie made her family and friends feel like they had a constant system and could count on her for whatever, whenever. Other type 2s in Star Hollows include Babette and Lulu.
Type 3 - Paris Geller - The Achiever
Move over Rory Gilmore, Paris Geller was by far the most highly motivated character to appear on Gilmore Girls. From her dedication to getting into Harvard, being class president, and becoming a doctor, Paris was always looking at the big picture and knew that she was bound to be successful.
Paris is a textbook type 3: the Achiever. She set goals and reached them, was incredibly driven, and didn't care to let anyone or anything stand in her way. 3s can often be blinded by their own success and fail to see their faults, and Paris definitely had moments, but ultimately knew her worth and potential and was ready to prove it. Kirk, Dave Rygalski, and Christopher could also be classified as Enneagram 3s.
Type 4 - Jess Mariano - The Individualist
Everybody's favorite bad boy love interest Jess Mariano loved to be a loner. He didn't care for playing by other people's rules, and would much prefer to get lost in a book than with other people. When it came down to it, he paved his own path and was happy where he ended up, even if it meant he was alone.
Type 4s are individualists. They're creative and moody, just like Jess. Individualists excel in a personalized environment where they are allowed to explore their strengths and aren't weakened by other people. Rory's best friend Lane Kim is another example of this, going against what her mother wanted for her and pursuing her musical ion, as well as Gigi's mother Sherry, who left her family to pursue her dream job in Paris.
Type 5 - Rory Gilmore - The Observer
There are many different enneagram types that Rory Gilmore could fit into. She strived for perfection, challenged others, and achieved her goals individually. But at the end of the day, Rory preferred a world of books and writing her own words, making her a Type 5: the Observer.
Rory always aspired to be a journalist, a career made for type 5s. She was attentive to detail, listened when she needed to, and was constantly investigating the world around her. Rory became immersed in both fictional worlds and her own. Gilmore Girls housed other 5's, including Mitchum Huntzberger and April Nardini.
Type 6 - Lorelai Gilmore - The Loyalist
Many fans might think that wild and free Lorelai Gilmore's enneagram would be the enthusiastic seven, but in reality, she is a loyal six through and through. At her core, Lorelai is staunchly protective of the people she loves, and constantly fears abandonment and disappointing others. She had mommy issues, daddy issues, and commitment issues, all because she was fearful of getting hurt.
Type 6s work hard, play hard, and love hard. Lorelai definitely did all of that, raising a daughter on her own as a teenager and eventually opening her own business. She held grudges and avoided situations where she could be hurt or made unhappy. Another loyalist would be Rory's first boyfriend, Dean, who sought security and comfort in remaining in Stars Hollow for most of his life.
Type 7 - Logan Huntzberger - The Enthusiast
Logan Huntzberger was the definition of a good time. He came from a family that exuded pressure, greed, and wealth, but he wanted to feel free and make choices that he could look back on with a smile. From the Life & Death Brigade to chasing wanderlust, Logan was by far the most spontaneous and energetic character on the show.
Enneagram 7s are enthusiasts. They seek thrills, excitement, and happiness anywhere they can get it. Logan wanted to feel alive, and he did his best to encourage Rory to do the same. Logan's decisions weren't always wise ones, and sometimes came back to bite him, but he was happy, romantic, and charming every step of the way. Other 7s in the Gilmore Girls universe include Zach, Lane's bandmate Gil, Logan's pals Colin and Finn, and Rory's Chilton classmates Madeline and Louise.
Type 8 - Luke Danes - The Challenger
Luke Danes was self-assured, strong, and a little bit defiant. He operated his business and his life the way he wanted to and wasn't afraid to get into an argument or two to work things out. He frequently butted heads with other Stars Hollow patrons, advocated for things he wanted and needed, and gave some of the wisest advice.
Luke was a type 8: the Challenger. He was protective of people he cared about and intensely ionate about the things that mattered most to him. He was lovable and backed by his strong beliefs and leadership. Stars Hollow was full of domineering 8s, such as Luke's number one enemy, Taylor Doose, Jackson, and Rory's Chilton classmate, Tristan.
Type 9 - Richard Gilmore - The Peacemaker
Richard Gilmore just wanted to read his books and bond with his granddaughter in peace. He often appeased his wife, Emily, for the sake of avoiding arguments and struggled to give in to his daughter Lorelai's emotional outbursts. He craved a quiet and comfortable life, something his family often failed to give him.
Type 9s are peacemakers. They try to ease tension and create calming situations around them. Richard often served as the mediator between Lorelai and Emily and tried his best to make everyone happy. Other 9s include Rory's teacher Max Medina, Lane's bandmate Brian, and Luke's sister, Liz.
