A planned biopic about the life of the late music and movie superstar The Photograph, has signed on to direct the biopic.
Sony TriStar Pictures, which won the biopic in an auction that included a total of six streamers and movie studios, has set I Wanna Dance with Somebody to release Thanksgiving 2022. Upon Deadline reporting the news of the film's acquisition, head of Sony TriStar Pictures Nicole Brown praised McCarten's script, saying, "his masterful screenplay [brings] this beloved legend to life in a way we’ve never seen her - funny, exhilarating, aspirational, complex, and incredibly human." She went on to say I Wanna Dance with Somebody will be "the ultimate celebration of Whitney’s incredible life and musical achievements.”
The biopic is the first authorized film about the life of the late superstar who ed away in 2012 and will include some of her hit songs. While details about the script are unknown at the current time, it was revealed that I Wanna Dance With Somebody will explore Houston's journey from her childhood in New Jersey to her musical superstardom while being very straightforward with exploring the price Houston paid for superstardom. It also won't shy away from her tragic demise. Given those involved in the movie, I Wanna Dance with Somebody has the potential to be another musical biopic success like Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman. However, much of the film's success will likely fall on the shoulders of the actress who's cast as Houston in I Wanna Dance with Somebody.
