Improv comedy is one of the hardest things to nail right on the head, which is what makes any fan of comedy shows and skits should definitely check out this masterpiece, if they haven't already. During the first eight seasons, Drew Carey served as the entertaining and charismatic show, before being replaced by the hilarious Aisha Tyler.
Both hosts are great in their own right and make Whose Line an excellent show for different reasons. To add further weight to this statement, here are five reasons why Aisha Tyler is an excellent host, coupled with five ways in which Drew Carey steals the show.
AISHA TYLER: A Fresh Face Who's A Joy To Watch
If there's one major positive about Aisha Tyler, it's that she's pretty much the perfect fresh face to host Whole Line Is It Anyway after 6 years of inactivity. After all, there's only so many times that one can interact with Drew over and over again, and a six-year gap could've amplified the problems even further.
However, that's not to say anything against Drew as a host. After all...
DREW CAREY: One Of The Most Notable Television Personalities To Watch
The fact that Drew Carey couldn't reclaim his role as the host just how notable Drew is.
There's no denying the fact that he added that perfect amount of star power to elevate the status of Whose Line to an entirely different level.
AISHA TYLER: Her Interactions With The Audience Are Great
That being said, there's no denying the fact that Aisha is an absolute natural when it comes to interacting with her show's audience.
It's clear that her charisma is through the roof in this regard, with her continued efforts to make the audience a part of the show's proceedings adding to the charm of the reboot.
DREW CAREY: The Show Was More Cynical Around Drew's Time
Whose Line was something else two decades ago, featuring a darker sense of humor and some wacky material that probably wouldn't fly by with the censors and audiences of today.
However, one can argue that this was also part of the old show's charm — the cast didn't have to think too much about what they had to say, making for moments that were quite legendary indeed.
AISHA TYLER: Great At Playing Off With The Cast
The audience isn't the one group that Aisha can woo with her charisma — the cast also had no problem getting on her good side.
The fact that she managed to establish such an amazing rapport with the main characters of the show in such a short time is a testament to just how approachable and likable Aisha really is as a host and a person, both.
DREW CAREY: The Cast Had No Problem Making Fun Of Him
However, the dynamic that Drew had with the cast was on a whole another level, with Wayne, Ryan, Colin, and the rest of the crew having no qualms about ripping into him at times and having a quick and hearty laugh at his expense.
The manner in which Drew played off these comments in the most hilarious manner possible was easily one of the strengths of the old show, and something that fans still miss to this day.
AISHA TYLER: She's Extremely Cheerful Throughout The Show
If there's one thing that's guaranteed on the new Whose Line, it's the fact that Aisha will pretty much always have a smile on her face during a large chunk of the show.
Maintaining such a cheery attitude throughout a lengthy show is no mean feat, and props should be given to Aisha for sticking with her guns and never letting up, no matter what.
DREW CAREY: He's A Part Of Some Of The Show's Most Legendary Moments
Whose Line has some really popular bits, and one need only look at the views of some of the show's more memorable moments on YouTube to understand just how hilarious and legendary they really are.
From the improvised Irish Drinking Songs to flubbing his lines during a Hoedown — the list of moments where Drew has been a major highlight of the show is truly immense.
AISHA TYLER: Her Enthusiasm Is Positively Infectious
A major part of what makes Aisha such an excellent show is the fact that her infectious enthusiasm ends up bleeding into each and every aspect of the show, making for an experience that is both hilarious and energetic.
This is one of the major reasons why the reboot has been so surprisingly watchable — even though Drew's departure may still be a major factor, Aisha has been excellent in her role and a worthy successor in her own right.
DREW CAREY: His Bond With The Cast Was Legendary
That being said, it goes without saying that Drew's absence on Whose Line is still painfully evident. The kind of bond that he had with the cast was just beautiful, and fans would definitely want to see more scenes featuring the lovable host once again.
Perhaps there may be a time in the future when the cast of Whose Line ends up meeting back together for a heartfelt reunion... but until this becomes a reality, one can only hope for the best.
