Angstrom Levy is undoubtedly the villain of Invincible season 2, but some viewers are wondering why he wants to kill Mark at the beginning of season 2. The reveal that Angstrom wants to go after Invincible may come as a shock to some viewers, as it goes completely against how the character had previously been acting, with it seeming as if a switch flipped in the character's mind. Although it is subtle, the reasoning behind Angstrom's fury against Invincible actually makes sense, perfectly explaining why he wants to hunt down and kill Mark at the end of the Invincible season 2 premiere.
Invincible season 2 is finally here, with episode 1 of the highly-anticipated continuation of Amazon Prime Video's beloved animated superhero series already out on the streaming platform. Invincible season 2 has made a lot of big promises, with it following up on the fallout of Invincible's battle with Omni-Man in Chicago while also introducing an all-new multiversal threat: Angstrom Levy. Although the season is far from over, it is clear that Mark will have his hands more full than ever before in season 2. Angstrom Levy is already set on killing Invincible after only one episode, and here's why the villain takes this drastic turn.
Angstrom Levy Wants To Kill Invincible Because Of His Variants' Memories
As it turns out, Angstrom Levy wants to kill Invincible due to the memories of his variants. At the beginning of the season 2 premiere, Angstrom Levy isn't portrayed as a villain at all. He is simply a superhero with the power to travel the multiverse, with his only motivation being knowledge. He works with the Mauler Twins to create a device that will allow him to merge his mind with those of his multiversal counterparts, but Levy never intended for anyone to get hurt. Angstrom even causes his machine to malfunction in an attempt to stop the Maulers from killing Invincible, showing that he harbors no ill will.

Is Invincible Actually Invincible (Or Can Mark Grayson Die?)
Mark Grayson's iconic superhero name suggests he can't be killed. While this might only be a name, there is clarity over if he really is invincible.
After the explosion, however, Angstrom's outlook is completely different, with him vowing to kill Invincible. This isn't because the main Angstrom Levy changed his mind. It's actually because his mind has been merged with all of the other Angstrom Levy variants. As is explained in the episode, most universes see Invincible Omni-Man in successfully taking over Earth, with the main Invincible universe being an outlier. Since most universes are destroyed by Invincible, most Angstrom Levy variants hate him, leading most of the villainous Angstrom Levy's mind to hate Mark Grayson. Driven mad by this influx of new minds, Angstrom Levy wants to kill Invincible.
Invincible Season 2, Episode 1's Ending Deepens Angstrom Levy's Anger
Angstrom Levy is already an angry figure at the start of Invincible season 2, but the ending of episode 1 deepens his anger even further. Although not much is known about the mainline Angstrom Levy's origins, he has clearly spent a lot of time in universes taken over by Invincible. While Angstrom Levy knows that the mainline Invincible isn't evil, pretty much every version of Invincible that he has seen is, giving him a reason to be angry towards Mark.
However, Angstrom Levy's anger at Invincible only gets worse at the end of season 2 for two big reasons. As has already been discussed, Angstrom Levy's mind is merged with the minds of all of his variants, many of which have seen their Earths taken over by Invincible and Omni-Man. However, the mainline Angstrom Levy also believes that Invincible is at fault for his accident, as Angstrom wouldn't have had to send the Maulers to fight him if he didn't show up. Angstrom Levy is a complicated character, but the end of season 2, episode 1 fills him with rage towards Mark Grayson.

Why Angstrom Levy's Anger Toward Invincible Confuses Comic Readers
Fans of the Invincible TV series aren't the only ones to be confused about Angstrom Levy's anger toward Invincible, as the same thing happened with readers of the comics. This is because Angstrom's origins in the comics are kept intentionally vague, with his backstory and history with other versions of Invincible never really being touched on. The idea that Angstrom Levy's sudden hatred toward Mark due to the influence of other minds is also never explicitly explained, with it having to be inferred by audiences after season 2, episode 1. Invincible season 2 sets up a fierce rivalry between Angstrom and Invincible, with it being carried out in future episodes.
