As the summer shows up and Big Brother still hasn't shown signs of being cancelled this year due to the coronavirus, it's officially time for the obligatory rumors of an all stars season that happens online every single year. While it would of course be great for fans if it were true this time, it's difficult to have faith in that being the case.
For any people who have been fans of the show for a long time, evidence that another all stars season would likely never happen has unfortunately stacked up over the years. People involved have not hidden the fact that if they were to bring in returning players, they far prefer to throw them in with some new players rather than an all returnee season. Around the time of season 18 or 19, the host Julie Chen was saying that ratings are better when Big Brother does that, so they think it's what the fans prefer too.
Combine that with Big Brother's original all star season's ratings not being as strong as production had probably hoped, and those are the main factors that make it doubtful that all of the sudden Big Brother would do another all stars season. Again, it would be great if the show did do that, but Big Brother is not exactly known for making the best decisions.
With that also comes worries that should an all stars season occur, will production get a cast that's worthwhile? The game lasts about a full month longer than it used to. A lot of people who fans would want to see, such as Vanessa Rousso, have families now and can't exactly leave for a whole summer that easily. The stipends would probably be bigger too. It's comparable to how the celebrity seasons had to be very short, and it's likely another big reason why the show hasn't done this since 2006.
It's also surely a part of why they instead only bring in a handful of returnees. So even if past players truly are getting calls from production as the internet rumors are saying, it's highly possible that it could end up being for a season that mixes returnees with new players. After the first all stars, they've done that in Big Brother Canada has gone as far as to have an even split with eight returnees. As much as a full cast of all stars is far preferred, it would not be surprising at all if this turned out to be yet another mixed season. Especially given regular casting that looks for new players has been going on just as it would for any new season.
Perhaps Big Brother consistently rejecting the possibility of another all stars season for so long has simply made a lot of fans too jaded and pessimistic to even entertain the idea now. Maybe the show has changed it's tune after seeing the recent success of winner season. It's not completely impossible that it's actually true this time, but it's a Charlie Brown with the football situation. Rumors of an all-star season happen every single summer and nobody should believe it for certain until they see it.
