Che's Breakup With Miranda Meant Their Story Was Over In And Just Like That
Che's Purpose As A Character Was To Help Miranda Explore Her Sexuality
Che Diaz was first introduced in the Sex and the City world in season 1 of And Just Like That as Carrie's new boss and podcast co-host. However, the character quickly grew more important, with their main storyline revolving around their relationship with Miranda. Despite still being married to Steve, Miranda and Che began an intense relationship that allowed Miranda to learn more about herself. While their relationship was certainly not perfect, season 1 gave the pair a fair amount of ion to keep them going.
However, as the series rolled into its second season, Che and Miranda's relationship became increasingly strained, leading the pair to eventually break up. Because Che and Miranda broke up, And Just Like That season 2 did give the character a bit of their own story, rather than just being a device to further Miranda's arc. In some ways, this was a good thing, as it made the character slightly more complex, but it also failed to resonate with viewers in the same way as the original characters and the other more fleshed-out new characters.

Why Che Diaz Was Such A Divisive Character In And Just Like That
Many Of Their Scenes Were Very Tough To Watch
Despite being a main character in seasons 1 and 2 of And Just Like That, Che Diaz was certainly not a beloved one. The majority of the show's new characters have been entertaining to watch and fit in well with the Sex and the City universe and tone as a whole, but fans took issue with Che Diaz from the start. ittedly, the original series feels dated to modern audiences, but upon its 2021 premiere, it was clear that the reboot was attempting to be more progressive. Unfortunately, Che Diaz came across as a caricature from the start.
Their relationship often came across as if Miranda was just an afterthought to Che, never a priority.
And Just Like That's audiences were immediately frustrated by Che Diaz due to the show's one-dimensional portrayal of LGBTQ+ people. Beyond the lack of character development that Che had in season 1, specifically, some simply found them annoying to watch and unlikable. All four of Sex and the City's main characters have always been well-loved, Miranda included, so when Che treated Miranda poorly throughout their relationship, it did not sit well with long-time fans.

And Just Like That Star Requested More Nudity For Season 3: “I Like Being Sexualized At 65”
And Just Like That star Mario Cantone explains why he actually wanted more nudity for his character in season 3 of the Sex and the City sequel series.
Their relationship often came across as if Miranda was just an afterthought to Che, never a priority. Likewise, given how strong a character Miranda has always been, her sudden change in behavior around Che felt strange. While Che was certainly an important character in the series because they allowed Miranda to finally come out as a queer woman and rekindled some ion in the character, ultimately they were not well-liked enough to necessitate being in And Just Like That or Miranda's life long-term.
