Cuddy Breaks Up With House In House Season 7, Episode 15
House confirmed Cuddy and House would be no more towards the end of season 7. In season 7, episode 15, "Bombshells", it is suspected that Cuddy has cancer, and she learns that House took Vidocin in order to be able to her during this time. This leads Cuddy to confront House about relapsing and ultimately end their relationship.
Cuddy and House's relationship had been rocky in the past, with a number of makeups and breakups. This led audiences to be unsure as to whether or not this breakup would stick. It did, however, mark the absolute end of their romance. By this point, Cuddy could no longer continue to be with someone who is as unpredictable and erratic as House. His drug addiction struggles and manipulation were too much for her, and she was unwilling to put up with it any longer.
Cuddy’s Actress Lisa Edelstein Exited House Before Season 8
Perhaps Cuddy and House could have worked through their serious issues and gotten back together later on in the show, but this was not an option because Cuddy's actress, Lisa Edelstein, exited the show before its end. House after most of the actors' contracts ended with season 7. In order to save money moving forward, the network wanted to issue pay cuts to their actors. Edelstein was reportedly unwilling to accept this and ultimately left the show.
Considering she won a People's Choice Award for her performance in House, it is no surprise that she was able to book a number of other roles after leaving. Edelstein went on to appear in shows such as The Good Wife, Castle, The Good Doctor, and The Kominsky Method, among others. Edelstein has also shared that she has no regrets about not returning to the finale and shared with Digital Spy that she doesn't think Cuddy and House were meant to ever get a "happily ever after".
