WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Squid Game season 2's ending! When Gi-hun meets Jun-ho again in identity of the Front Man and what happened to Jun-ho’s brother. Jun-ho, a detective, ends up infiltrating the Games to find his brother (believing he’s a player) after discovering a card in his belongings, only to learn that In-ho is actually the Front Man, who is responsible for running and overseeing the brutal death Games.

The last time that Jun-ho appeared in Squid Game season 1, he fell off a cliff into the water after being shot by In-ho. Season 2 reveals that he survived, with Jun-ho then searching not only for In-ho, but also for the island where the Games are played. He finally finds his way back after tracking down Gi-hun, though their partnership becomes more complicated upon discovering that Gi-hun seeks revenge against the Front Man. In response, Jun-ho lies to Gi-hun about not knowing what the Front Man looks like, setting up more conflicts for Squid Game season 3.

Even though In-ho betrayed Jun-ho, shot him, and seemingly left him for dead during their confrontation on the cliff before Squid Game season 1’s ending, Jun-ho still holds out hope that there’s goodness in his brother. Jun-ho loves his brother and knows the pain that he’s been through in his life, and he hopes that the In-ho he re is still in there despite his corruption. Ultimately, Jun-ho still wants to protect his brother, and telling Gi-hun the truth would give away too much information about In-ho and risk his brother's fate falling out of his hands.

Squid Game season 2 features a major twist involving the Front Man and Player 001, but what’s the real purpose of this shocking revelation?

In the end, Jun-ho wants to be the one to deal with In-ho. Jun-ho has hope that he can change his brother and bring him back into the light, but he knows that Gi-hun won’t allow that – rather, Gi-hun won’t stop until he gets revenge against the Front Man. Of course, it wasn’t until the very end of Squid Game season 2 that Gi-hun discovered the Front Man had infiltrated the latest Games and pretended to be Player 001 – a trick he could have picked up on had Jun-ho been honest with him.

Furthermore, Jun-ho lied about not knowing the Front Man because Gi-hun likely wouldn’t have wanted to work with him if he knew the truth. Gi-hun would have believed that Jun-ho’s judgment in the situation would be clouded by his familial relationship with In-ho, which would provide an obstacle for Gi-hun’s revenge plans in Squid Game season 2. Gi-hun likely wouldn’t agree that In-ho should be spared, and thus wouldn’t have moved forward with their partnership given their different intentions for the Front Man on Squid Game’s island.
