The Dexter prequel series Dexter implements Harry's code to satisfy his violent urges while making sure never to get caught.

After Michael C. Hall reprised his iconic role as the charismatic vigilante serial killer in 2021's Dexter: New Blood, he returns as Dexter: Original Sin will likely cover a few anticipated kills that are already established in Dexter's lore. Another Dexter series, Dexter: Resurrection, is expected to be released in the summer of 2025 with Hall also slated to return.

Maria LaGuerta Is The Only Returning Dexter Character Not Introduced In The First Prequel Episode

She seemingly has not been hired yet at Miami Metro PD

Maria LaGuerta does not appear in the premiere episode of Dexter: Original Sin. She is notably the only returning original cast member who is set to appear in the Dexter prequel series and does not show up in the first episode. Both Vince Masuka and Angel Batista make their first appearances early on in the pilot episode. Series leads Debra Morgan, Harry Morgan, and of course, Dexter Morgan, played by Patrick Gibson, are also introduced in the opening scenes.

The most plausible explanation is that Maria LaGuerta just isn't working at Miami Metro yet at this point in the series. Considering how much she came to learn about Dexter and how Deb ended up taking her life in the original series to protect her brother, she is probably going to get her own spotlighted introduction in a future episode. There is speculation about how she will approach Dexter in the prequel series since she was notably flirtatious with him in Dexter season 1.

When Will LaGuerta Be Hired At Miami Metro In Dexter: Original Sin Season 1?

She may come on to help find a serial killer

Dexter: Original Sin may not really start feeling like the classic Miami Metro homicide office from the original series until LaGuerta shows up in a future episode. Once the season-length villain is potentially introduced in Original Sin, LaGuerta may come on to oversee the particular hunt for a serial killer that Dexter will almost certainly go after himself. Since LaGuerta is a confirmed character in Dexter: Original Sin, while other fan favorites such as Sergeant Doakes are not, it's only a matter of time before she makes her introduction.
