currently in development at Amazon Studios. The film is set to be helmed by veteran comedy director Nicholas Stoller, whose impressive filmography includes 2008's Forgetting Sarah Marshall, 2010's Get Him to the Greek, and 2014's Neighbors, which starred Seth Rogen and Zac Efron. The British-born American filmmaker's work includes yet another romantic comedy film, Bros, featuring co-writer and actor Billy Eichner.
Now, it's been reported by THR that Witherspoon and Ferrell are headed to the altar to lead Stoller's untitled wedding comedy film, which is currently in the works at Amazon. The plot details for the film are yet to be disclosed, but the story is said to revolve around two weddings that are reserved at the same venue on the same weekend. Amazon reportedly landed the rights to the film after a hugely competitive bidding war that involved several streamers and studios. Stoller, Witherspoon, and Ferrell are also set to hop onboard as producers for the project.
Academy Award-winner Witherspoon is currently attached to numerous projects, which include the rom-com movie Your Place or Mine with Ashton Kutcher, Disney’s live-action adaptation of Tinker Bell, and the long-awaited Legally Blonde 3 movie, to mention a few. As for Ferrell, the Anchorman and Elf actor's future commitments include the holiday musical feature Spirited, which sees him star alongside Ryan Reynolds, and Greta Gerwig's Barbie film, which is slated for 2023. The amusing nature of the premise of Amazon's untitled film mentioned above could be enough to serve up quite a few laughs on its own, but with the involvement of seasoned comedic performers in the form of Witherspoon and Ferrell, the project promises that audiences will witness another comedy classic.
