Warning! Spoilers ahead for the Will Trent season 3 finale. Will Trent season 3 finale ended with multiple cliffhangers, amid a bioterrorism attack, as several lives hang in the balance. But there were also personal revelations, as Will (during a small town case in Georgia) discovered his biological father to be Sheriff Caleb Roussard, after their DNA matched up.
ScreenRant's Rachel Foertsch sat down with showrunners Daniel Thomsen and Liz Heldens, as they broke down the emotional conversation between the two men, and how the revelation will shape their relationship. Thomsen reveals that they still have a lot of decisions to make about the Will & Caleb storyline, and that Will is ready to transition from his created family to the family the universe has chosen for him. Check out Thomsen's comments below:
Daniel Thomsen: There's still a lot of decisions we have to make. I think that we think Caleb, in Will's mind, has earned his way to the table in the sense that he's going to give him a shot. They're going to go and sit down and break bread, and Will's going to meet the other people. It's not just Caleb. There's a little bit of a family ecosystem, as Liz has been saying. It's like Will is going from his chosen family that he's created to the family that he just gets now, and how that's going to be a different type of trauma. Yeah, we have a lot to figure out, but it just feels like Will's ready to try.
What This Means For Will Trent Season 4
The Show's Familial Theme Just Became More Real
Will Trent, at its heart, is a show about family. Will, who grew up in the foster system, and always wondered about his biological parents, swapped his real-life family for his work family. This helped him to grow, open up, and understand more about himself as a man. With the reveal that Caleb is his biological father, there is now plenty of time to make up for the two men, and, despite being understandably upset, it seems Will is prepared to give Caleb a chance.
