However, their romance seemingly comes to a permanent end at the end of Will Trent season 2 when Will arrests Angie after learning she previously covered up a murder in season 1. Afterward, Will runs away to Tennessee, where he remains for six months until Amanda brings him home to work on a new case in the Will Trent season 3 premiere. During the hour, Will comes across a new face who will undoubtedly serve as Angie's replacement.

Gina Rodriguez's Marion Alba makes her Will Trent season 3 debut during the premiere when she runs into Will at a Mexican restaurant. Will's case leads him there as the victim (a cop) had scheduled a meeting with an unknown person. That mysterious person turns out to be Marion, the Assistant District Attorney of Fulton County. The victim intended to act as a whistleblower to expose corruption in the Atlanta Police Department, but he was killed before he could discuss his options with Marion.

The Will Trent season 2 finale ended on a massive cliffhanger concerning Angie Polaski, but the first look at season 3 spoils its resolution.

So, Will confronts Marion and asks her what she knows. The two characters don't get off to a great start as they are both apprehensive about trusting one another, but it soon becomes clear that Will and Marion work well together and have a playful banter. She agrees to help him with the case, and she will continue to do so during the second part of the Will Trent season 3 premiere. However, since Rodriguez is a part of the main cast, viewers should expect to see Marion stick around for the rest of the season.

Marion Is Immediately A Better Match For Will Than Angie

Will & Marion Are More Compatible

Right off the bat, Will and Marion have chemistry in Will Trent season 3, there's no denying that. Sparks don't immediately fly between them as they're more focused on the case than getting to know one another (even though Marion learns a little about Will's past that he never disclosed to anyone before). Still, the potential for a romance between Will and Marion is obvious. Ramón Rodríguez's character is getting a new love interest in Will Trent season 3, and it's about time he moves on from Angie.

Will and Angie have chemistry, too, of course. However, Will's relationship with Angie comes with an asterisk because of their past together and shared trauma, and it always will. They have a history that includes constant fighting over Angie's annoyance at Will's need to be her savior and Angie's tendency to push him away, resulting in toxicity. Will and Angie clash too much, and their tumultuous relationship is better left in the past. Although they will always have love for one another, that doesn't mean they should be a couple.

A relationship with Marion would be a fresh start for Will as they can build a foundation from scratch, unlike his shaky, battered, and bruised one with Angie.

Meanwhile, Marion is nothing like Angie, and she might be just what Will needs. A relationship with Marion would be a fresh start for Will as they can build a foundation from scratch, unlike his shaky, battered, and bruised one with Angie. Plus, it's clear that Will and Marion already have a good working relationship despite just meeting. Ultimately, Will Trent season 3's story is only beginning, and it remains to be seen how Will and Marion's potential romance progresses. Ramón Rodríguez did tease what's to come, though. Per TVLine, he said:

"...so, at first, [Will and Marion's relationship] is strictly a professional thing, and I think slowly we end up seeing that it's more than that. She's a very different person for Will that he has not really encountered, and that we have definitely not seen. I mean, there's been Angie, and we know that history… there was Cricket, and that was so short-lived with a lot of potential… and then there's Marion, who comes in and is a very slow build, and a slow relationship, and I think a lot of the things that surprise Will about her are, you know, she doesn't judge him. She's kind of just there, and available and present, and shows up. And they connect, and the spark starts to happen, and we kind of get to witness that, which is really cool."

What Marion's Introduction Means For Will & Angie's Possible Reconciliation

Will Trent Needs To Leave Will & Angie's Relationship In The Past

The last time Will saw Angie was when he arrested her. So, even without Marion in the picture, the former couple's next meeting is sure to be full of tension and perhaps anger. The events of the season 2 finale might have done enough damage to bring Will and Angie's romance to a permanent end, which is good. Plus, Will Trent season 3's casting of Marion signals the end of Will and Angie's relationship. Will can start to move on, but perhaps not right away — he is still mourning what could've been with Angie.
