COD Outbreak Zombies: What is Holdout?

We're returning to old-school zombie roots with Holdout challenges. Players will find a massive Aetherium Crystal on the map and are prompted to blow it up. However, this is clearly upsetting to whoever spawned this crystal, as evident by the booming voice that wishes death upon the player. Getting near the crystal will slow and hinder players' movements. Be sure there aren't any elite enemies nearby. Be especially careful that the Holdout crystal doesn't spawn near a golden loot chest or another side objective the team is trying to complete. Get the Holdout done first if this is the case.

Only one player needs to It's just a silly glitch, but it's worth trying out.

When players are transported, they'll be taken to one of three Holdout locations depending on the map they're coming from. Alpine will take players to the bathhouse (the same place the Beacon will occasionally spawn). Golova will take players to a single-level building with multiple windows. Finally, Ruka will bring the team to a two-story lodge building. Each location has its unique strategies to defend.

How to Win Holdout on Alpine

  • There are two rooms that players will want to hunker down in on the Alpine Holdout. They are located in the North and South corners of the building and differ slightly. One room will be larger and has one window players must defend. The larger space makes it easy to move around if the players guarding the door get overrun (which they shouldn't). Secondarily, the other room is much tighter, about the size of a large closet. However, players won't have to worry about covering any windows. They can concentrate all fire on the door. Hunker down in one of these two spots (ideally the window-less option) and kill everything in sight.

How to Win Holdout on Ruka

  • Ruka is the easiest of the Holdouts by far. All players have to do is head upstairs and hunker down at the end of the hallway. They'll see a boarded-up door at the end. Zombies will NOT come through it. Concentrate all fire on the stairs and let the zombies funnel in. Do not get greedy and leave the spot to pick up Salvage in the middle of a wave. Each Holdout is broken up into three segments. Wait for the zombies to slow down before running into the carnage to grab ammo and equipment.

How to Win Holdout on Golova

  • Golova is the toughest Holdout as it has few places to hunker down. Players should pick one of the two hallways and cram inside. There is a window they must defend. Whoever is in charge of the window, whether on Golova or Alpine, should never look away from it. Only if their team is in desperate need of back-up should they leave their post. Guarding the window isn't the most entertaining thing, but it's crucial to survival.

When hunkering down, players are going to be right on top of each other. They know just how annoying Ray Gun splash damage can be. Whoever has a Ray Gun should stay upfront to not suffer splash damage from shooting a teammate in the back. Secondarily, players cannot use ariel killstreaks while in a Holdout. This means Chopper Gunners, Artillery Strikes, and Cruise Missiles will be deactivated.  However, players are free to use hand-held killstreaks and Sentry Turrets.

Whoever is guarding the window should always be repairing it. Even if it's just a few boards, it will keep zombies from hopping in. Be aware that Hellhounds can destroy ALL the s on the window and jump right through. Hellhounds and Plaugehounds will be the team's worst enemy as the AEO fire and Gas damage will hurt everyone inside the small room.

Coordinate Ring of Fire when elite enemies start showing up, especially as the final wave is peaking. It's also crucial for players to let their teammates known when they're reloading an LMG. The long re-load times may allow for a few zombies to slip through the cracks. Of course, seasoned Zombie players know just how crucial calling out reloads can be.

Always head into Holdout, and every other main objective, with field upgrades, armor, and weapons ready and full. The undead onslaught won't stop until the timer strikes zero. Don't run around repairing all the barricades either. Hunker down in a room and concentrate all fire on choke points and doorways.
