Slings in Windbound give players a distance advantage when dealing with a wide variety of animals and beasts across the islands. Arrows are more powerful and useful but slinging rocks are a better choice when dealing with smaller prey as one rock will usually do the trick.
The Sling of Ancestors is one of many weapons in the game players can acquire to make their journey/survival a little easier. While Kara does have a small knife that players can never part with, it's at very best suited for carving materials and skinning animals for their components rather than using it as an actual weapon. Range is key in Windbound which is why having a tool that can dispatch anything from far away should be considered more than any spear or knife. This guide will focus on and explain how to obtain the Sling of Ancestors.
Finding the Sling of Ancestors in Windbound
Weapons in Windbound work fairly effectively and require little supplies to manufacture. Of course, named weapons that use special gems in their crafting process are much more effective all-around and have a longer shelf life. Ancestral weapons such as the sling however do not have a shelf-life and last as long as players continue to have it in their bag. Also, unlike the other weapons, the Ancestral sling cannot be found out in the world, and cannot be crafted using any materials what so ever. The only way players can obtain the Ancestral sling is to equip it as a boon after reaching the other dimension between worlds and chapters. Players cannot visit this realm any time that they wish as it is the main goal of every chapter. By activating the Monoliths and obtaining the sea shards with each subsequent activation, players can purchase the right to use the sling permanently.
While the use of "permanent" in this situation does refer to the possession of the sling, it is only usable if it is equipped in the place of another boon. Boons are offered after every chapter in the other realm after surviving the trials between the shrine island and the mural island. A mural is revealed after every chapter keying in on some important details to the story and why Kara is in the predicament she is in. After observing the mural, players will embark on a trial sailing their ship through turbulent waters. After surviving hit the shrine on the bottom floor to unlock a new boon and then go upstairs to the second pedestal and apply the boons. The Ancestral sling is one of the boons and may appear randomly after any chapter. There is no rhyme or reason as to when they appear exactly, so someone could be lucky enough to equip this indestructible sling from the very beginning. It costs a hefty amount of shards though; at least 500. So make sure to scour the worlds for random glowing rocks or blue vases that will award players with said shards.
Windbound is available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
