A modder recently added a mod to Mods for The Witcher 3 have vastly improved since the RPG's release nearly six years ago. Several changes and enhancements have boosted the experience by introducing new cosmetic items, gameplay improvements, and graphics-related refinements.
Of course, modders are also known for bringing wackier additions into the fold. One mod released last year, for example, gives players access to snowboarding mechanics. A Chicken Helmet DLC mod sees every chicken in the game donning a helmet that could for a mind-control device. But what would happen if the worlds of The Witcher and God of War collided? One brand-new mod ponders the possibilities by giving Geralt of Rivia access to one of the coolest weapons in recent memory.
A few days ago, Nexus Mods milckywayy ed a mod that adds Kratos' Leviathan Axe to Geralt's arsenal in The Witcher 3. After installing the new weapon mod, which is compatible with New Game Plus, players can unlock Leviathan from three different locales - the blacksmith Hattori in Novigrad, the Ofieri Merchant, and Lazare Lafargue's workshop in Toussaint. The axe's damage output and level is scaled to the player's level at the time of purchase. Get a quick look at the Leviathan Axe in action in the gameplay video below:
Unfortunately, this mod seems more focused on the aesthetic aspect of the Leviathan as opposed to some of its more iconic features. The above footage doesn't show Geralt throwing the axe; thus, it stands to reason that the Leviathan Axe's mythical properties are not a part of the experience. Based on the gameplay shown, this modded version of Kratos' weapon also lacks the ability to deal frost damage. Still, it's an awesome addition to Geralt's toolset. The axe seems to fit right in, too.
The appeal of Leviathan reaches far and wide, though classic God of War fans were initially wary about the sidelining of Kratos's Blades of Chaos. Throughout the character's 2018 adventure, the axe proved itself more than worthy of adoration. How developer Santa Monica Studio will further improve upon the weapon in the eagerly-anticipated sequel should be a sight to behold.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms. Meanwhile, God of War is playable on PS4 and PS5.
