A new fan-made animation has put a unique spin on the popular "Toss a Coin to your Witcher" song from Yennefer of Vengerberg and Princess Cirilla of Cintra.
Based on the works of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher Saga was first published in 1993. Prior to Netflix's ambitious adaptation, they were most notably turned into a hugely popular video game franchise. Though The Witcher features multiple nods to the games, the bulk of the show's inspiration comes directly from the books. As such, The Witcher has proven exceptionally popular. No matter what side of the fence one rests on, however, one element that united fans and detractors alike was the character of Jaskier and his "Toss A Coin To Your Witcher" song.
To emphasize just how much the song has seeped into public consciousness, an artist by the name of PandaMusk created an animated video. Doubling as a celebration of 2019 officially giving way to 2020, the video was posted earlier today. In it, Jaskier can be seen playing his lute and singing his self-penned ballad. Though he moves through the differently populated tavern and even experiences a number of costume changes, Geralt himself remains unmoved. In a fashion customary to the stoic Witcher, Geralt merely sits and drinks as Jaskier performs - no matter how close and in which awkward positions the bard places himself. Not even the hilariously odd image of Jaskier twerking serves to divert Geralt's gaze. Check out the full video below:
Played by Joey Batey, the character of Jaskier debuted in The Witcher season 1, episode 2, "Four Marks". Jaskier invited himself along when The Witcher was commissioned to hunt down a supposed devil. After that adventure, Jaskier remained a recurring fixture in Geralt's life. Present for numerous pivotal events, Jaskier is even instrumental in Geralt becoming bound to Ciri and meeting Toss A Coin To Your Witcher" was born - helping to bolster Geralt's standing.
The animated video certainly captures the essence of their relationship. Especially in the way Geralt often views Jaskier as a mere nuisance and cannot openly call him a friend. Still, Geralt often went above and beyond for the womanizing bard. As did Jaskier for Geralt, albeit in especially different ways. As such, their odd-couple dynamic was widely considered a fan-favorite. And while the pair parted on a bitter note, it's likely that their paths will cross again. After all, Jaskier (translated to Dandelion) is a popular part of the original books and subsequent video games. In the meantime, the new video will no doubt stick the song firmly back in fans' minds and leave them even more eager to see what ballads Jaskier will conceive in future episodes.
The Witcher season 2 is expected to be released on Netflix sometime in 2021.
