begun production for season 2 following a successful first season that debuted late last year.

While CD Projekt Red is currently developing Cyberpunk 2077, which is slated to release later in 2020, the company has previously indicated that it currently considers itself a two-IP studio. That means the company is intent on focusing on both Cyberpunk in the future as well as The Witcher. In recent years, that has meant both a The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and a focus on Gwent, the spin-off card game that first made an appearance in Wild Hunt. After Netflix's The Witcher introduced so many new fans to the fantasy world, however, it appears the next step is transporting them into it.

As announced on Twitter, The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be an ARG title that is being developed by Spokko, a studio that's part of the CD Projekt Red family. The game was announced with a trailer that featured the usual appeal of ARGs, showcasing a player who is walking their dog through a forest as their phone begins to vibrate - like a Witcher medallion, which is a nice touch - before a Leshen emerges out of the woods. Combat and gameplay weren't demonstrated in the trailer, but The Witcher: Monster Slayer's official website gives a bit better idea of what to expect, and there are certainly Pokemon GO inspired elements.

According to the website, The Witcher: Monster Slayer will primarily allow fans to explore an ARG setting and defeat enemy creatures. There will be story-driven quests to pick up on the ARG map, and trophies to collect from monsters. The combat in The Witcher: Monster Slayer sounds particularly appealing to fans, as it will require them to combine the right mixture of oils, potions, bombs, and more to ensure they're prepared to tackle the wide variety of monsters the series has to offer - and the equally diverse methods with which Witchers must slay them.

For now, there's not a lot to go on for The Witcher: Monster Slayer other than its definite Pokemon GO influence and it's incredibly exciting appeal. For a series that has steadily gained followers, this seems like the next logical step - and while many other Pokemon GO alternatives have similarly family-friendly aesthetics, The Witcher: Monster Slayer may target a slightly more mature demographic, which could cause it to establish a very lucrative place for itself in the ARG market if executed well. Spokko might not be a developer many are familiar with, but with CD Projekt Red on board, it has to be more likely The Witcher: Monster Slayer is a strong launch than not - and apparently, it's coming soon.
