Summary
- Harper Finkle profited from writing books about the Russo family's magical adventures in the future.
- Alex and Justin turned Max into a little girl with a spell gone wrong, but eventually reversed it.
- Harper and Zeke briefly broke up due to Harper's secret, but reconciled after the truth about magic was revealed.
The 2020s have become the era of reboots, and Selena Gomez's Alex Russo is set to return for the Wizards of Waverly Place reboot as well. In the original series, Alex and Justin were often rivals, but they were also absolutely inseparable.
While it is great news that David Henrie and Selena Gomez will reprise their roles, it is concerning that no other core cast ’ involvement has been announced. Harper and Max are just two of the Wizards of Waverly Place characters who must return for the reboot. Juliet, Justin's girlfriend in the original series, is less likely to appear in the sequel, as the synopsis has revealed that Justin's wife is a human. Still, no matter who will set foot in the new show, it might be beneficial to run through the major events in Wizards of Waverly Place's timeline.

10 Disney Channel Shows That Deserve The Reboot Treatment After Wizards Of Waverly Place
While the Wizards of Waverly Place reboot is great news, there are a few other Disney Channel shows that are long overdue for a revival series.
9 Harper Got Rich Writing Books
"Future Harper" (season 2, episode 16)
Harper Finkle was Alex's best friend, whom she let in on her secret of being a wizard. In Wizards of Waverly Place season 2, episode 16, "Future Harper," the Russos found out that an author was profiting off writing books about their lives. The real plot twist of the episode was that this author turned out to be Harper from the future, who traveled to the past to write about her and Alex's magical adventures without her friend's permission, and this was the worst thing Harper did in Wizards of Waverly Place, even though technically, it was her future self.
8 Alex & Justin Turned Max Into Maxine
"Three Maxes and a Little Lady" (season 4, episode 5)
In Wizards of Waverly Place season 4, episode 5, "Three Maxed and a Little Lady," Alex and Justin tampered with a spell in an effort to push back the date of the family wizard competition, and it blew up in their face quite literally — they ended up turning Max into a little girl. Bailee Madison's Maxine stayed for five more episodes, offering new energy to the series and providing plenty of opportunities to spice up the plot. In episode 10, "Back to Max," the teenage wizards found a way to reverse the spell, and Max was back for good.
7 Harper & Zeke Broke Up & Reconciled
"Zeke Finds Out" (season 4, episode 11)
Harper and Zeke started out as friends, but their romantic feelings emerged at the end of season 2, and their relationship gradually evolved. Alex played matchmaker for them in season 3, and they began going out. In Wizards of Waverly Place season 4, episode 11, "Zeke Finds Out," the couple briefly split because Zeke knew that Harper was hiding something, and she was unable to tell him what. Thankfully, the two made amends once the Russos told Zeke the truth about magic. Hopefully, Harper and Zeke are still a couple and appear in the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel.
6 Alex & Mason Got Back Together
"Get Along, Little Zombie" (season 4, episode 23)
Alex and Mason didn't have an easy time in their relationship either. Over the course of Wizards of Waverly Place, they broke up quite a few times for a variety of reasons. Mason's past relationship with Juliet, Alex's refusal to take part in the family wizard competition, and Mason's jealousy over another guy were the deciding factors in their splits at one point or another. Finally, in season 4, episode 23, "Get Along, Little Zombie," Alex took Mason back after he helped her deal with a magical zombie crisis, and they stayed together for the rest of the series.
5 Justin & Juliet Reunited
"Wizards vs. Everything" (season 4, episode 24)
Justin and Juliet were another Wizards of Waverly Place couple that everyone rooted for, even after Mason bit Juliet, turning her into an old human woman, and Juliet and Justin parted ways. In season 4, episode 24, "Wizards vs. Everything," Juliet, who was young again thanks to Gorog, made her grand return. The Russos defeated Gorog, freeing Juliet and other supernatural beings from his control, and Justin and Juliet reunited. Learning how Juliet and Justin's relationship ended and what happened to Juliet is one of the things that is on the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel wishlist.
4 Alex Became The Russo Family Wizard
"Who Will Be the Family Wizard?" (season 4, episode 27)
A lot unraveled in Wizards of Waverly Place's finale, as this was the episode where the family wizard competition took place. One of the highlights of "Who Will Be the Family Wizard?" was Alex winning the title. While Justin was the one who technically emerged from the competition first, it was Alex who helped him get his foot unstuck, thus, losing her own chance of triumphantly crossing the finish line. In the end, Justin had too much integrity to keep the details of his victory to himself, so he told the truth, and Alex became the Russo family wizard.
3 Justin Got Full Wizard Powers Too & A New Job
"Who Will Be the Family Wizard?" (season 4, episode 27)
Justin's confession to Professor Crumbs, the Heaster of WizTech, led to the second surprising turn of events in Wizards of Waverly Place's finale. Crumbs was utterly touched by Justin's honesty, and he decided to make him the new Heaster of WizTech, since Justin knew a lot about magic, and Crumbs was looking to retire. Naturally, Justin wouldn't be able to run the school without his powers, so the Professor gave Justin his magic back as an award for his honorable actions. Justin always strove for academia, so getting this job offer was the perfect ending for him.
2 Max Inherited Waverly Sub Station
"Who Will Be the Family Wizard?" (season 4, episode 27)
Unlike Justin and Alex, Max never showed much potential or much interest in magic. He was also the youngest, meaning that there was little chance for him to win the family wizard competition, to begin with. After Alex and Justin's dreams came true in Wizards of Waverly Place's finale, Max got a consolation prize of sorts — Jerry and Theresa decided to down their sandwich shop, Waverly Sub Station, to him. Max often helped out in the shop, and his business-running skills weren't too bad either, so it made sense for him to become the new owner of the restaurant.
1 Alex Defeated Her Evil Self
The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex
In The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, set a year after Wizards of Waverly Place's finale, Alex's spell backfired, and she accidentally created an evil version of herself. The villainous Alex teamed up with Gorog's nephew, Dominic, and together, they attempted to take over the world. After figuring out their plan, Alex and Mason went to their lair and fought them off. In the end, Alex's selfless act, giving up her powers, eliminated her evil alter-ego. When Alex realized that she could live without magic, her powers were restored, and all was good again.
