Warning! Spoilers for Savage Avengers #24 by Marvel Comics below
Marvel Comics just revealed how to keep the Wolverine's bones to ensure Bruce Banner couldn't transform into the gamma monster. In Savage Avengers #24, the greatest heroes on Earth lose against Kulan Gath as the evil sorcerer destroys humankind and reshapes the world in his image. Kulan Gath keeps Bruce Banner alive but wraps Wolverine's adamantium bones around his next to ensure he can't transform with being killed.
The Avengers just experienced one of their most devastating losses ever, as their efforts to stop Kulan Gath from taking over the world failed. Doctor Strange and Conan the Barbarian tried to defeat the villain, but even In the end, he killed nearly everyone - except an unlucky few, who were left to be tortured more than 20 years later.
In Savage Avengers #24 by Gerry Duggan, Patch Zircher, Java Tartaglia, and Travis Lanham, readers learn what happens after Kulan Gath defeated Earth's Mightiest Heroes and eradicated humankind in the process. In the future, Kulan Gath sits in front of his throne on the floating City of Sickles, lamenting he doesn't have an audience for his greatest victory. Bruce Banner's fate is soon revealed, as he's one of the only heroes left alive, but Kulan Gath has wrapped his neck in Wolverine's bones. So, if Banner transforms into the Hulk, the adamantium will press down on his expanding neck and kill him before it happens.
It's quite the dark reality for Banner, who not only was kept alive as his fellow heroes brutally perished, but he can't fight back without being killed. Using Wolverine's bones as a way to stop the Hulk from emerging is a brilliant play by Kulan Gath. If Banner gets angry, he dies. If he tries to transform into the Hulk, he dies. It's a terrible fate for both Banner and the Hulk.
The question remains: Would Bruce Banner's transformation into the Hulk prevent him from being impaled by Wolverine's bones? It's possible, but it comes with the potential risk of death. However, considering how few heroes are left in the dark future ruled by Kulan Gath, they need to keep their numbers, even if it means no Hulk coming out to save the day. Savage Avengers #24 is in comic book stores now.
