The creature, who used to be a man named Ted Salis, is connected and guards the Nexus of All Realities, which allows those who enter a pathway to any and all realities in the Multiverse and beyond. However, in a new encounter with Wolverine, Man-Thing's connection to the swamp and powers accidentally activate the mutant's trigger scent, leading to a fight that lasts eons, with no winner ever being named.
In Crypt of Shadows #1 by Adam Warren, Guru-eFX, and VC's Travis Lanham from Marvel Comics, the story "Endless Slaughter in the Infinite Swamp" features Laura Kinney's Wolverine meeting up with Man-Thing to have him her in a fight to save the world. However, Wolverine turns on Man-Thing after his swamp mutagens accidentally activate her trigger scent, turning Kinney into her originally engineered X-23 form. However, the fight doesn't last hours, days, weeks, or even months, as the two heroes battle for hundreds of millions of years with no winner.
Man-Thing is One Marvel Hero Wolverine Can't Defeat In The Story
With both heroes' regenerative abilities and their fight taking place on the Nexus of All Realities, the battle literally doesn't end for millions of years. Wolverine slowly loses all her mental capacity, becoming a being of pure rage as the battle shifts from different dimensions, timelines, and worlds. Outside the Infinite Swamp, humanity goes extinct, and the Multiverse turns into dust as their fight continues. No winner of the infinite encounter is ever named, as Wolverine and Man-thing battle for so long, that both are eventually erased as their molecules become no longer viable.
Given the circumstances of the encounter, Wolverine met the one hero she could never defeat. Man-Thing and the Nexus of All Realities are practically unbeatable. When mixed with Laura Kinney's regeneration powers, the fight between the heroes lasts hundreds of millions (and even billions) of years without a winner ever being named. Ultimately, Wolverine and Man-Thing's fight will never have one hero suffer a defeat.
