Warning! Spoilers ahead for Wolverine: Revenge #4! Wolverine and Sabretooth’s iconic rivalry usually puts the two mutants on equal footing, but in an unusual twist, Sabretooth just outsmarted Wolverine in dramatic fashion.
In Wolverine: Revenge #4 – written by Jonathan Hickman, with art by Greg Capullo – long after Wolverine gets his revenge on Deadpool, Omega Red, and Colossus, Wolverine visits Sabretooth, who has adorned his home with pungent dead animals. When Wolverine leaves, Victor Creed reveals the scent has been covering up Sabretooth’s allies, including Colossus’ son, and the Omega Red Clan who want to take Wolverine out.
Victor Creed ingeniously uses this version of Wolverine’s enhanced sense of smell against him by overwhelming his super senses, turning one of his biggest assets into a fatal weakness.
Wolverine Is Outsmarted As Logan’s Greatest Enemy Turns His Most Powerful Ability Into His Most Damning Weaknesses

Out of all Wolverine’s enemies, it's more than fitting that his most infamous antagonist, Sabretooth, is the one who discovers Wolverine’s keen senses also act as a significant liability to Logan. Not only does Sabretooth have a long-standing vendetta against Wolverine, especially within Wolverine: Revenge, but he also shares incredibly similar mutant abilities to Wolverine. Since Sabretooth too has a heightened sense of smell, it makes sense how Creed discovered Wolverine's weakness. However, this is far from the first time Wolverine’s powers were turned against him.
Wolverine’s strongest assets can quickly turn into his most deadly shortcomings.
Wolverine is near immortal, with one of the best healing factors in the Marvel Universe and very few weaknesses, but that hasn’t stopped Wolverine from experiencing extremely close calls with death. One of the most infamously recognizable moments in X-Men history happens in X-Men #25 – written by Fabian Nicieza, with art by Andy Kubert – where Magneto extracts the adamantium from Logan's body on a molecular level. The later Death of Wolverine #4 also showed Wolverine succumbing to adamantium by becoming encased in it, showing how Wolverine’s strongest assets can quickly turn into his most deadly shortcomings.
Logan Is Known for Being Invincible, But Sabretooth Just Uncovered Wolverine’s Surprisingly Obvious Disadvantage
Wolverine’s Greatest Assets Are Ironically His Most Fatal Flaws
Wolverine’s berserker rage and abrasive mentality have often been a source of strife for the hero, but Sabretooth discovering Logan cannot sense his enemies while overwhelmed by other smells is a surprising yet obvious flaw that fits incredibly well with Wolverine’s character. Wolverine has already been duped by his own adamantium, and now his keen senses introduce a new, unforeseen weakness. Sabretooth uncovering that Wolverine’s most prominent powers are a glaring weakness spells a new kind of trouble for Wolverine, while also creating the potential for this intriguing new information to be used within the main Earth-616 Universe.

I'll Never Forgive Marvel For Making Wolverine's Backstory Even More Tragic
Wolverine and Nightcrawler have been friends for decades, but the Ultimate Universe just gave them a tragic backstory I'll never be able to forgive.
