WOLVERINE: REVENGE Is a Blood-Soaked Wild Ride Through the Marvel Universe (Review)
Wolverine: Revenge #1 delivers on the promise of its superstar creative team, setting up what could be an all-time Marvel Comics classic.
In The Wake Of Magneto's Death, Colossus Unexpectedly Steps Up To Fill His Role As Mutantkind's Greatest Villain
Wolverine: Revenge #1 – Written By Jonathan Hickman; Art By Greg Capullo, FCO Plascencia, & Cory Petit
This version of Colossus seems detached from the pain he's participating in, making him a chilling replacement for Magneto.
Though he's changed gears in recent years, Colossus is stepping up to fill in his shoes. He's willing to doom the entire Western world and help kill old friends in the process to prop up the Brotherhood's goals. Piotr's loyalties are clearly not with the X-Men any longer, and the EMP's devastation revealed a whole other side to the mutant powerhouse.
Yet this isn't Colossus' only turn as a villain. For much of the Krakoan-era, Piotr was controlled by his brother, Mikael. He killed his own girlfriend and manipulated his friends and fellow X-Force , placing them and the whole mutant nation in great peril. Piotr is typically presented as a caring, kind soul, and his true nature seems at odds with his organic steel skin and incredible strength. Something dark must be buried in the mutant's heart, however, and it continues to resurface in new ways. This version of Colossus seems detached from the pain he's participating in, making him a chilling replacement for Magneto.
Colossus' brutality in Wolverine: Revenge #1 is shocking, as he coldly walks away from an old friend being blown to pieces.
Piotr Rasputin Has Never Succeeded As A Villain Before – But This Time Might Be Different
A Dark Reimagining Of A Classic Hero
Pitor isn't well-suited to playing the villain, even though this isn't his first time in the role. Still, his brutality in Wolverine: Revenge #1 is shocking, as he coldly walks away from an old friend being blown to pieces. Still, historically, Colossus reaches for the path toward redemption once he realizes he's in the wrong. He was willing to face the consequences of Mikael turning him into a puppet, so there is a chance he will walk away from the Brotherhood. The damage he causes in the meantime is permanent, however. With Magneto dead, Colossus is stepping up as one of the most heartless X-Men villains ever.
Wolverine: Revenge #1 is available now from Marvel Comics.
