Wolverine is in a bloody fight for his life in the bombastic new trailer for Wolverine: Revenge that sees him taking on dinosaurs, S.H.I.E.L.D., and more. The limited series comes from an all-star creative team and pits Logan against old enemies (and friends) in a brutal odyssey of revenge.
Marvel released the trailer on Twitter/X in celebration of San Diego Comic-Con. Wolverine: Revenge is written by Jonathan Hickman and drawn by Greg Capullo. In the trailer, Wolverine goes up against vicious dinosaurs, S.H.I.E.L.D., Sabretooth, and even his old buddy, Colossus.
Summaries for the series include mentions of Wolverine suffering a near-death experience. Given his incredible healing powers, something like that promises to be very bloody.
Wolverine Is On His Bloodiest Quest Yet
Wolverine: Revenge, written by Jonathan Hickman, art by Greg Capullo
As Wolverine once said, he's the best at what he does, but what he does isn't very nice. The trailer for Wolverine: Revenge showed how true that is for this new miniseries, which starts with Logan fighting dinosaurs before skipping through other violent, painful moments. One particularly grisly moment shows Wolverine stabbing himself in the chest with his own claws. Either he is in drastic need of self-surgery in the Canadian wilderness, or this has something to do with Magneto controlling his adamantium skeleton. If it's the latter, it looks like it doesn't turn out well for Magneto, as Wolverine is seen donning his helmet.
For those who want an even more R-rated experience, Wolverine: Revenge will also be released in a polybagged, Red Band version.
Beyond Magneto and dinosaurs, it looks like his other targets include familiar faces: Sabretooth, Omega Red, and Deadpool. These two mutants and fellow Weapon X experiments are classic foils for Wolverine. Another face, however, is a surprise: his Fastball Special partner and fellow X-Man, Colossus. Previous fights between Logan and Peter have happened in the past, but were often excused as Wolverine being possessed by a demon (Wolverine [2010] #4), or having turned into Wendigo (The Amazing X-Men [2014] #12).
Wolverine: Revenge May Be a Tale From Logan's Past
The timeline of this series is uncertain, and may provide a clue as to why Wolverine would go up against his teammate. One scene from the trailer shows Wolverine, Captain America, and the Winter Soldier exploring the frozen tundra, alongside S.H.I.E.L.D. agents in retro uniforms. They're led by the original version of Nick Fury. If some of this story happens during the Cold War, Colossus could still be part of the Soviet Union, and thus an enemy to Wolverine's team. Readers don't have to wait too long to find answers, as the intense Wolverine: Revenge hits shelves soon.
The bloody saga kicks off with Wolverine: Revenge #1 on August 21.
