Summary

  • Wolverine has formed a 'Snikt Family' similar to Batman's Bat-Family, with his children sharing his iconic claws - except Quentin Quire.
  • That is, until Quentin Quire, aka Kid Omega, trapped Sabretooth in a Krakoan cell using his omega-level psychic powers, manifesting powerful psi-claws.
  • Kid Omega taking down Sabretooth with his new claws solidifies his status in Wolverine's found-family and as an honorary 'Wolverine'.

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Wolverine #49! More recently, in Marvel Comics canon, Wolverine has established his own ‘Snikt Family’ akin to Batman’s Bat-Family in DC, and like the Bat-Family, all of Logan’s ‘children’ share Wolverine’s aesthetic, including and especially his iconic claws. At least, almost all of them, as his unofficial son was the only member of the Snikt Family who didn’t have his own claws - until now. However, unlike the rest, these claws are nothing like adamantium, as they are far more powerful.

In a preview for Wolverine #49 by Benjamin Percy, Victor LaValle, and Geoff Shaw, Sabretooth is trapped within a Krakoan containment ‘cell’ that acts as a mini version of the Krakoan Pit, a prison at the center of the living island that not only traps one’s body in its core, but also their mind in a hellish psychic prison of their own making. Sabretooth’s mind and body are trapped in this plant-like containment cell, where the events of his most recent defeat play over and over in his head.

Sabretooth became trapped in the Krakoan cell in the previous Wolverine issue, and while it was his former Exiles team that did it to him, the one who made his imprisonment possible was Quentin Quire aka Kid Omega. Kid Omega used his omega-level psychic powers to manifest three giant psi-claws which stabbed Sabretooth, putting him down long enough for the Exiles to launch their attack.

Kid Omega was a Member of Wolverine’s Snikt Family Long Before Getting His Claws

Black Tom naming Kid Omega as Wolverine's unofficial son.

Quentin Quire just made his inclusion in Wolverine’s Snikt Family official by getting his own set of claws just like the other - including Laura Kinney and Akihiro. However, even before he did so, Kid Omega was already Wolverine’s unofficial son in Marvel Comics. That point was made earlier in the ongoing Sabretooth War in Wolverine #41, when Quire was referred to as one of Wolverine’s ‘cubs’. Then, Wolverine himself all but confirmed the fact that he thought of Quire as his son while mourning his apparent death in the following issue.

While Sabretooth War has highlighted the fact that Logan thinks of Quire as his son, Wolverine had effectively adopted Quire years earlier when he took Kid Omega under his wing right at the cusp of the omega-level telepath making the turn toward villainy. Right when Quire came to Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, he initially rejected the idea that he should use his powers for the good of humanity, and nearly became radicalized. But, Wolverine saw the potential in him, and under Logan’s guidance, Kid Omega would become one of the most powerful heroes in the Marvel Universe.

Quentin Quire GETTING ‘Wolverine Claws’ Isn’t as Significant as How He USED Them

Kid Omega using his psi-claws to stab Sabretooth.

Kid Omega using his cosmically powerful psychic abilities to manifest psi-claws that make the adamantium versions look like toys by comparison isn’t as significant as how he used them: taking down Sabretooth.

Wolverine’s arch nemesis throughout his Marvel Comics history has always been Sabretooth, and the villain has never been more dangerous than he is right now during the Sabretooth War. Therefore, by extension, Sabretooth is also the arch enemy of the entire Snikt Family - Quentin Quire included. By using his new claws against his found-family’s ultimate nemesis, Quentin Quire solidified his status as a member of the Snikt Family not just by simply manifesting claws, but by using them to defeat Sabretooth - something the villain is reeling from in this Wolverine preview.

Quentin Quire used his claws to take down Sabretooth, and if that doesn’t make someone an honorary ‘Wolverine’, nothing will. And to make the situation even better, Kid Omega’s claws are way stronger than adamantium, as they’re made from his immensely powerful psychic energy. Kid Omega has been a member of the Snikt Family since becoming Wolverine’s unofficial son, but his new claws - and how he uses them - only solidifies his status.

Wolverine #49 by Marvel Comics is available May 8, 2024.
