Although she learned the lesson at a young age, Diana truly embraced it when she was faced with a choice; hold on to the one thing she'd always wanted or accept the truth that it wasn't really hers to keep, and save the world. While Diana's lesson is one that many fans took to heart, there were still a lot of questions that the movie, starring Gal Gadot, brought up. Not to mention a number of mistakes that made it through.

Didn't Anyone Notice A Man Was Missing?

The Man Who Steve Trevor's Body Inhabited Looking At Himself In A Mirror From Wonder Woman 1984

A big moment in WW84 was the return of Captain Steve Trevor. In the first movie, Steve sacrificed himself to save others. WW84 brought him back to life through the magic of the Dreamstone.

Despite Steve being shown as the man fans knew from the first movie—played by Chris Pine—the movie revealed that his resurrection wasn't that straightforward. After Diana's wish, Steve came back in another man's body. So, while Diana and the audience were seeing Steve with the face of Chris Pine, he was actually someone else.

Sadly, their reunion was short-lived. Once she renounced her wish, Steve was gone and the man whose body he'd been possessing went back to his life. How did Steve get away with being in his body all that time without anyone looking for him? Surely the man had friends, family, and colleagues who must have wondered about his whereabouts.

What Exactly Are The Rules Of The Dreamstone?

While most fans accepted that the Dreamstone was a magical, wish-granting artifact, a lot of things about the god-powered relic were questionable. Anyone making a wish had to be holding the stone. Even after Maxwell turned himself into the stone, he could only grant a wish if he had direct with whoever was making it. Strangely, during his broadcast to the world, he told everyone they only needed to say the words and the wish would come true. Why did the rules of the stone suddenly change?

Also, officially, everyone could only get one wish. But, somehow, Barbara managed to wrangle a second wish, which turned her into Cheetah. The only explanation for Barbara's transformation is her wish to be an apex predator magically coming true, but how did she achieve that when everyone else was limited to one wish?

Did The FBI Forget About The Dreamstone?

In the earlier scenes, Barbara was asked to look into the Dreamstone for the FBI. It was a pretty big deal and Barbara got all excited when she heard the news. It's surprising then, that there was no mention of the FBI again after that.

The stone was part of evidence from a crime that Wonder Woman stopped, so why wasn't the FBI worried about its whereabouts? Even more baffling is that Barbara let Maxwell take the stone and didn't ask for it back after finding out what it really was. Although, the FBI might have been preoccupied with missiles that had appeared out of nowhere and an impending war.

What Was Maxwell's Endgame?

While it was understandable why Maxwell used his one wish to become the stone, his endgame wasn't clear. When he was targeting oil tycoons, it made sense that he was going after the world's most expensive commodities, so he wanted to be the richest and most powerful man in the world.

However, when he started granting wishes for everyone, such as the man from the diner who wished his wife would drop dead, what exactly did he gain from that? Prior to his broadcast, he looked haggard, as if granting the wishes was taking its toll on his health. The more wishes he granted, the worse he became. Oddly, when he granted more than thousands of wishes, his health and appearance improved drastically.

What Other God-Powered Artifacts Are On Earth?

During her investigation, Diana realized the stone was a god-powered relic, powered by the god of lies. At that moment, she used her lasso of truth as an example to explain how it works to Steve. Her Lasso of Truth is powered by the truth, just as the Dreamstone is powered by lies or deception. Unlike the Lasso, the stone takes something of value in return for granting the wish.

Is it possible that the other gods also left their mark on relics somewhere on earth before they died? If they did, it would be interesting to see the chaos those would cause and how Wonder Woman would save the day.

Did Renouncing Wishes Affect Memories?

ww84 renouncing wishes

The only way to stop Maxwell from destroying the world with his Dreamstone powers was if people renounced the wishes they'd made. Barbara was against the idea and for a while, so was Diana, because it meant she'd have to lose Steve again. Steve managed to convince her that the cost of losing her powers wasn't worth keeping him because he was already gone and she had to move on.

Once Diana renounced her wish, she got her powers back and went to stop Maxwell. After her heartfelt speech, everyone else, including Maxwell, renounced their wishes and the world returned to normal. One of the last scenes showed Diana meeting the man whose body Steve had inhabited. He didn't have any recollection of her, but he was wearing an outfit she had chosen for Steve. Perhaps subconsciously, he still had some memory of that time.

What Happened To Barbara?

When Maxwell renounced his wish, it undid a lot of the damage he'd done with the Dreamstone powers, including Barbara's transition into Cheetah. However, that transition was actually Barbara's second wish, her first having been to be like Diana, which gave her inhuman strength and other abilities.

The movie never showed her renouncing that first wish, so it's possible she still had those powers. Some fans might argue that Maxwell's renouncement of his wish canceled everything since he'd become the Dreamstone. But, Barbra's wish was made before that happened, so it couldn't have been affected by his change of heart.

Did Maxwell Do Time For His Crimes?

The destruction Maxwell brought on Earth during his time as the Dreamstone was definitely worth a prison sentence. Especially, considering he almost caused a nuclear war. It wouldn't be surprising if he was held able for his actions and sent to prison.

Since everything returned to normal after he renounced his wish, there wasn't really anything to make up for. It also wasn't clear whether the people ed the events following their wishes, so Maxwell might have gotten away with things on of that, as well.

What Happened To The Dreamstone?

When Maxwell became the Dreamstone, the yellow crystal disintegrated into dust and he absorbed its power. Whoever wanted to make a wish, made it to him and he would take what he wanted in return, just as the Dreamstone did before him.

Once he renounced his wish, he lost the power of the Dreamstone, but where did it go? Did it simply cease to exist? Or did the Dreamstone reform and appear somewhere else where it will wreak havoc again later in the future?

Will Asteria Be In The Next Wonder Woman Movie?

The mid-credits scene of WW84 held an exciting surprise for longtime fans of Wonder Woman. Prior to this scene, Diana told Steve of a brave Amazon warrior named Asteria, who sacrificed herself so the rest of the Amazons could escape to Themyscira. Diana even wore Asteria's golden suit in the final battle of WW84.

The mid-credits scene showed Asteria saving a woman and her baby from a falling pole. The best part about this surprise reveal was that Asteria was played by Lynda Carter, the first live-action Wonder Woman in the '70s TV show. Since a third Wonder Woman movie has been confirmed, fans are excited at the possibility of seeing Asteria and Diana side-by-side, working together to save the world.
