The Arkham series of video games are some of the most popular superhero video games of all time, with the Batman-fronted games becoming critically and commercially successful, bringing a new dynamic to the Batman character and creating one of the most compelling Batman universes.

With the release of Suicide Squad by Rocksteady, some fans have been wondering which other DC heroes deserve their own solo games. Some of these characters may have never received a game, while others may be crying out for their first appearance, or for their first modern video game appearance.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman is part of the legendary DC Comics trinity and stands as one of the most popular comic book heroes of all time. However, despite her popularity and recent movie appearance, she has yet to receive her own video game.

This borders on the criminal as the character would offer one of the most compelling fighting styles in comics. Furthermore, the character of Wonder Woman also allows this game to be set in almost any period. Arguably, Wonder Woman could even appear in events from Greek mythology and fight against mythological creatures.

The Question

Far from being the most popular character in DC Comics, the Question is still one of the most intriguing and unique. Any game based on the Question would be a compelling and intriguing detective story, requiring the player to analyze crime scenes and work out the plots of the villains.

Additionally, what could make a Question game even more interesting is which ‘Question’ the game focusses on. The game could either follow Vic Sage’s Question or Renee Montoya’s version.

Superman

Superman has been the subject of video games in the past, but none of these games have truly been given the chance to live up to both the insane power levels and iconic status of Superman, the Man of Steel.

It is a real shame that Superman has yet to receive a successful video game, as there is so much that could be done with the character. While the ridiculous power levels of Superman could make Superman too powerful, these powers would also make him incredibly fun to play as.

The Flash

The Flash runs away from a city in the DC comic book Flashpoint.

Like Superman, the Flash has received a video game adaption in the past. However, this solo video game was released around 20 years ago and the character of the Flash is certainly popular enough to justify a modern video game adaptation.

A Flash video game would be very interesting, not only because the character is one of the most popular in DC Comics, but also because the unique power set of the character would prove a compelling challenge for developers.

Green Arrow

Green Arrow has risen in popularity over recent years, with Stephen Amell’s Green Arrow helping to introduce the character to a modern audience, giving the character levels of popularity that he hadn’t experienced before.

This level of popularity, coupled with Green Arrow’s unique play style would make for a very compelling and interesting game, ideally in an open-world game design.

Batman Beyond

The Arkham series of games have changed the way, not only Batman games are perceived, but action games in general. The patented ‘Arkham’ combat system helped to revolutionize video game combat in an unprecedented manner.

While Rocksteady claims to be finished with the Batman character, it would be interesting to see them adapt Bruce Timm’s Batman Beyond character. This game would exist in the same world as the Arkham games and allow the player to explore Neo-Gotham as the legendary Terry McGinnis.

Aquaman

Despite being routinely mocked by a generation of fans, Aquaman has been regaining popularity among the fan base. In part due to the recent comic book run, as well as the Jason Mamoa Aquaman movie, the character is now prime for a solo video game.

The unique ocean based adventure would make for a compelling and distinct video game, allowing developers to traverse a unique environment.

Lobo

Naturally, most video games based around DC Comics follow a superhero. Making a game based on Lobo would allow for the typical moral rules of a superhero to be broken, allowing the player to , essentially, have a Grand Theft Auto-esque game in the DC Universe.

The player could control Lobo as he travels across the galaxy, potentially even having to make moral decisions and choose whether Lobo will be more hero or villain.

Katana

Katana has made several live action appearances over the past decade, with the character appearing in the Arrowverse and in the critically maligned Suicide Squad movie alongside Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang.

Katana, despite not being the most recognizable character, would be a very interesting one to play as, with her swordplay and questionable morals allowing for some very compelling game design.

Zatanna

Zatanna

Most video games following superheroes rely purely on powers and strength, showing the heroes defeating the villains with their wit and fists. However, a Zatanna game would change this, making the player use magic to bring down the villains.

Not only would Zatanna’s power set make for an interesting gameplay mechanic, but she is also a popular enough character in her own right to warrant the release of this video game.
