Warning: contains a preview of Justice League: Last Ride #2!
New series embracing her role as a deadly hero.
The preview pages for Justice League: Last Ride #2 from writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Miguel Mendonça reveal that the Justice League's last mission before breaking apart took place on Apokolips, where fans know Martian Manhunter met his end. While the team have agreed to work together to help the Green Lantern Corps regain its reputation and fill the void they've left behind, this mission on Apokolips created a huge divide between Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent - a bitter clash in which Diana is yet to take a side.
Wonder Woman may not be the most powerful member of the Justice League, but her martial skills are peerless. In the heat of battle, Diana Prince shows off exactly what it means to be an Amazon warrior and why the daughters of Themyscira are considered such a legendary force. As she fights against Darkseid’s lieutenants, Wonder Woman rallies the Amazons and mounts what appears to be a formidable defense. Beset by enemies that are equipped with Apokolips’ advanced technology and incredible physical resilience, Wonder Woman is able to turn the tide and hold back the enemy using her Golden Eagle Armor and accompanying sword and shield.
Wonder Woman’s combat ability is on full display in the preview pages as she faces multiple enemies at once and continues to hold the line as Batman and Martian Manhunter work to disarm Darkseid's nuclear weapons. Despite her strength waning and her Amazonian sisters falling to the Hordes of Apokolips, Wonder Woman does not yield, and continues to fight on in the League’s last gambit to save the Earth from Darkseid’s latest invasion. Wonder Woman and the Amazons appear to repel the Furies by themselves, with no direct help from any other member of the Justice League or other metahumans. This is no easy feat, as the Furies themselves are well trained, unnaturally tough, and deadly at close quarters. To defeat them without the help of other metahumans and using only the traditional Amazonian weapons and training is extremely impressive, and likely what allowed the league to save the Earth together during this flashback.
Wonder Woman is one of DC's 'Trinity' heroes along with Batman and Superman, giving her a key role in their feud and a unique position from which to build bridges as the team reluctantly reassembles for one last mission. Wonder Woman's battle against Darkseid's forces shows she is a formidable warrior with an iron will - the exact qualities she'll need to possess to succeed in helping the Green Lanterns and perhaps persuading the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel that the Justice League isn't an idea that can be just tossed aside. Find out whether Wonder Woman succeeds when Justice League: Last Ride #2 hits retailers June 8.
