And if that’s not enough, this fall, fans will witness Diana riding the most twisted version of the winged horse ever seen, taking the legend to a whole new level.

DC has already teased Absolute Wonder Woman #1, showcasing art of Diana riding an undead, winged horse reminiscent of Harry Potter’s Thestral.

Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer’s Wonder Woman: Dead Earth #2 continues the dark narrative of Diana Prince awakening from a centuries-long sleep to find her friends gone and Earth turned into a wasteland. In her quest for answers about the planet's devastation, Diana returns to Themyscira with a group of humans, hoping to find sanctuary.

However, she soon discovers that her homeland is ground zero of the nuclear bombings that destroyed Earth, leaving her mother and sisters mutated into monstrous beasts that attack her on sight. Just in time, her long-time rival Cheetah arrives on Pegasus to save her, though both Cheetah and Pegasus are now also marked by their own mutations.

Like Cheetah, Pegasus has been altered by the nuclear fallout from the wars that devastated Earth. But unlike Cheetah’s transformation, Pegasus’s mutations only enhance her badassery rather than acting as an eyesore. The winged horse retains her majestic white form and impressive wingspan, but now features gaping lacerations across her neck and mouth, exposing her teeth, internal muscles, and ligaments. While this depiction of Pegasus might be unsettling to some, most would agree that her post-apocalyptic form is undeniably badass.

For those unfamiliar with the connection between Pegasus and the Invisible Jet, they are essentially one and the same. Pegasus was transformed into the Invisible Jet, making them two aspects of the same entity. This transformation occurred in Wonder Woman #128 (1962) by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru, following Diana’s rescue of the winged horse. In gratitude, Pegasus pledged her service to Wonder Woman and took on the form of the jet to adapt to the modern world. Seeing Pegasus in her horse form in Dead Earth is a special treat, as she is usually depicted as the Invisible Jet.
