WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for WONDER WOMAN #21 (2025)

It’s no secret that Wonder Woman ranks among DC’s most powerful heroes. Yet for years, her exact power level and limitations have been difficult to define, especially when compared to the likes of Superman or DC’s pantheon of gods. That uncertainty is finally starting to fade, as DC has now given fans a clear and compelling benchmark by directly comparing Diana’s strength to that of its most powerful deities.

Tom King and Guillem March’s Wonder Woman #21 picks up where the last issue left off, with Batman and Wonder Woman continuing their investigation into the murder of Ares in an effort to clear Diana’s mother, who stands accused of the crime. After being struck by one of Zeus’ lightning bolts, the Dark Knight is sidelined, leaving the bulk of the investigation to Diana.

Her search for answers eventually leads her to Hephaestus. While he isn’t the killer, it becomes clear he knows more than he is willing to share. This sparks a fight between the two, and through their confrontation, as well as what Diana later reveals to Bruce about her power levels, it becomes evident that Wonder Woman stands above even the Greek gods.

Throughout Wonder Woman issues #20 and #21, readers have seen Diana go head-to-head with several gods, most of whom have been uncooperative in her investigation. She has physically confronted deities like Dionysus, Hephaestus, and other powerful beings, emerging victorious each time. One of the most notable encounters is her battle with Hephaestus, where he gains control of her Lasso of Truth and attempts to choke her with it. However, in a moment of impressive wit, Diana uses the god’s sexist assumptions against him, lying and tricking him into believing that she, a woman, would never face a god alone, and that Batman is also present.

This lie causes Hephaestus to split his focus between Diana and the shadows of his workshop as he searches for Batman, giving her the perfect opening to land a knockout punch. While the fact that Diana defeats a god with a single blow is remarkable, what’s even more significant is the lie itself. She lies that Batman is there while bound by the Lasso of Truth, something that should be impossible. This suggests she is either immune to the Lasso’s effects or powerful enough to override a god-forged weapon. The answer becomes clear in the following scene, where Wonder Woman essentially its that she is more powerful than the gods of Olympus.

Wonder Woman’s Ability to Resist the Lasso of Truth Explained (& Why It Makes Her More Powerful Than DC's Gods)

Wonder Woman recounts her fight with Hephaestus to Batman, who is surprised that the god fell for her bluff that the Dark Knight had accompanied her and was waiting in the shadows to strike. Diana notes that Hephaestus was right to believe her, especially since the Lasso of Truth was wrapped around her at the time, which should have made it impossible for her to lie. At this revelation, Batman asks if that means the Lasso of Truth does not work on her. Diana replies, “No, no, it works very well. The weapon’s magic is more powerful than Olympus.”

At this point, Bruce reads between the lines and comes to the correct inference: if Diana was able to resist the Lasso’s magic and lie, then she must be more powerful than the Lasso itself and, by extension, more powerful than the magic of Olympus. Since Olympus is home to the gods and its magic represents their divine power, this moment essentially confirms that Wonder Woman is more powerful than the gods themselves. It is a powerful and badass testament to Diana’s strength and status. But the question now becomes: does this make her more powerful than Superman?

How Powerful Is Wonder Woman Compared to DC’s Kryptonians?

Thanks to DC’s 2024 Absolute Power crisis event, fans now have a definitive answer regarding where Wonder Woman ranks in comparison to Kryptonians. In Absolute Power #1 by Mark Waid and Dan Mora, Amanda Waller unleashes her Task Force VII against Earth’s heroes. This task force consists of six power-stealing Amazo robots, each modeled after a member of the Justice League’s “Big 7," Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter, with the seventh member being Batman’s Failsafe. In this issue, readers see the Amazos scan their targets, revealing each hero’s power level.

One of these Amazos, called Last Son and modeled after Superman, sneaks up on Clark, scans him, and notes that Superman possesses the highest possible power level. After draining Clark’s powers, Clark is shot, sending the Man of Steel crashing to the ground. Fortunately, his son Jon Kent and Superboy Kon-El arrive in time to save him. However, this prompts Last Son to scan their power levels as well, revealing that each is roughly two-thirds as powerful as Superman. Meanwhile, in Washington, Wonder Woman is targeted by another Amazo known as Paradise Lost.

As the name implies, Paradise Lost is modeled after Wonder Woman herself. When the Amazo scans her, the power level bar shows Diana’s strength ranking between the young Kryptonians and Superman. This confirms that while Wonder Woman is stronger than the average Kryptonian, she still falls just short of matching Clark’s full power. This conclusion is further ed by DC’s newly released Justice League Unlimited hip cards, which assign numerical values to each hero. Superman is ranked at “S-100,” while Wonder Woman is placed just below him at “S-95.”

Further examination of DC’s Justice League hip cards also gives fans a clear idea of who Diana’s most equal match is: Supergirl. Supergirl’s JL hip card also designates her power level at “S-95.” This further drives home the point that Wonder Woman’s power level is on par with the god-like Kryptonians, suring Jon and Kon, matching Kara’s, and falling just below Clark’s. This revelation, combined with the events of Tom King’s Wonder Woman #21, also gives fans deeper insight into how Kryptonians compare to gods, with Supergirl and Superman, at the very least, standing among the Super-Family who are more powerful than DC’s gods, alongside Wonder Woman.
