Squabble, a new Wordle is a browser-based word-puzzle title in which players have six attempts to guess a five-letter word. As players make their guesses, the game confirms whether or not a guessed letter is in the word, and if so, whether it is in the location guessed by the player.

Wordle has given rise to countless copycat games trying to capitalize on the viral success of the original. Unlike the original, many of these copycats are monetized, which have upset fans of the game with ads, microtransactions, and other similar features. Such mimics are disdained by fans of Josh Wardle’s original creation, due to his mission to keep Wordle free of fees and ads. Some of the copies follow a similar creed to the original, however, and are ad and monetization free and simply add a twist or theme to the game. This includes the Wordle-inspired Lordle of the Rings, a Lord of the Rings-based version of the game for fans of Tolkien.

One of the newest Wordle clones, Squabbleputs a battle royale spin on the original game (via Looper). Created by Ottomated, the basic gameplay very similar to Wordle, however, there is one major distinction: Squabble is a competitive, multiplayer game in which players have health bars and take damage as other players complete puzzles. Squabble has been rapidly picked up by streamers, as a way to make the popular puzzle game more engaging for their audiences to follow along with.

In Wordle, players are encouraged, though not exactly incentivized, to preserve their guesses, as the game tracks how many tries it takes to solve the daily Wordle puzzleSquabble, however, is a race in which players commonly scrawl through the same five words as fast they can to immediately learn what letters are in the target word, with one guess left to find the answer. Squabble is a fun, fast-paced alternative, for those that want to add some extra puzzles to their day.

Describing a word game as a battle royale may seem odd, but Squabble's intensely fast pace gameplay can definitely be compared to typical competitive multiplayers in the battle royale genre. Part of the original game's success is due to the way in which players can use social media to share their scores. Although players could easily share their Wordle scores without giving any hints away before, Squabble's addition of multiplayer adds a completely new competitive element to the game that increases the tension and pressure of puzzle-solving.
